landog, visa application is relatively easy and painless in HK. My compnay has relocated staff & family to different countries, and have placed overseas staff with other companies to their HK office. I'm not in Telecom so i don't know what your chances are here. i'll wait till you reach 10 posts and send you my company's contact.

Thats great to hear!

Does it count if I post bumps to get to 10 :)

Landog - did you try http://www.monster.com.hk - stick 'telecommunications' or whatever term in the red search box and you should get some good hits - such as Oracle - looking for Marketing Director.....

See this link: http://jobs.monster.com.hk/details/4980559.html?sig=js-5-5ab918034ec6f64320113c6165945339-1

Er, the second one is based in Singapore.

But the first one is certainly appropriate it would seem.

correct Smog - i'd see that as a reasonable opportunity to avoid the plunge into the pollution we're experiencing these days. A bit more crowded than HK, but a quick jaunt across the causeway to Johore and then onwards to nice weekends in Malaysia....
However, perhaps the 'Big Brother's Watching' aspect of S'pore isn't so great.

A bit more crowded than HK?? Sure didn't feel like it.

It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than open ones mouth and remove all doubt.

Just read that the population density is more (based on Gambling intel - e.g. Macau, HK, LA, etc) - but you're right it feels much less crowded than Honkers.....Incidentally, Macao beats both HK and S'pore for being crowded - and it feels it these days (or perhaps it was something to do with it being 3am, lots of beer and double vision)

to be, or not to be, what was the question?

hi landog, I have worked in Executive Search /Recruitment in Sydney as a Researcher. What type of work do you do in Sydney. Perhaps I can help? Incidentally for everyone else seeking Research work in HK in Executive Search/Recruitment. Keen to move to Hong Kong - it seems a really alive city:-). Landog send me an e-mail and will see what I can do (research companies for you)

Just to start you off landog, here are some specific IT-teleco recruitment firms based in HK (web sites at least): http://www.bestjobs.hk/bt-employers.htm, http://www.robertwalters.com/en-hk/vacancy/results.do (includes a teleco job in fin services in HK), http://www.careerjet.hk/. You can also go on seek at www.seek.com.au, where it says region select overseas

If you are looking for more senior level roles in telecos, you can casually approach headhunters that specialise in your sector (teleco and IT usually grouped together) - try http://www.itcareer.com, http://www.itel-international.com/contact.html, http://www.infotech.com.hk/english/whatsnew.asp (click on contact us for their address), http://www.grammytech.com

I can probably find some more if you need them but the above should be a good starting point. It is always good to start off with only a few recruitment or Search firms at first and expand only if you need to . That way you can develop a good business relationships with Recruiters and Search Consultants that work with you securing a specific job for you. Bear in mind that most Search firms (the second group) tend to cover roles that are 600K in HOng Kong currency or 100K Australian dollars

Good luck:-)
