LT - Embassy? Why - isn't the visa issue office a different setup? Is it the place in Great Eagle Ctr in WC?

to be, or not to be, what was the question?

I spose its all the same - gov't run in 1 way or another...and inherently a pain in the arse.

AND________________FINALLY________I got my visa!

I must be an undesirable because although I applied for the 1yr multi-entry @ 30 days each, I was rewarded with only a 2 entry visa @ 30 days each, valid until Sept.....

Perhaps the hope is that I'll use one entry for work and the other to visit the Olympics!

Beyond that, I have the added glee of coughing up an extra HKD490 for having a UK passport!

It's costing me money and probably a client. I've started to discuss with an Indian company about switching some of my business out of China if I can - f**k 'em.

Why not Vietnam, Thailand or such? India is fine but QC can be even more nightmarish.....as I'm sure you've had the joy of experiencing...

Unfortunately for me, I don't think Foxconn is going to re-allocate projects it's 170,000 Shenzhen workforce do, to India too soon.

I'm having a meeting in HK on 6th with guys from Malaysia, Vietnam & India and a couple of Europeans blokes about sorting something out - I don't much like being f**ked about...and you are what you drink and I'm a bitter man...to quote the MacLads.

The HK govt has done f**k all to help with the visa debacle - it's spent millions on a horse riding event that will be watched at best by an elitist few - it will not encourage any additional tourist dollars and it'll be over in a week.
I hope they've saved some money for those HK companies and people that are getting f**ked over and losing clients and business because of this.

Well, there's a team lead by Tsang going up north to see how HK can help with the earth quake....I see nothing wrong with this, but I can bet you they had no visa problems!

It's pretty bizarre.....I've got a 16 year track record of doing business/getting visas into China, am a permanent res in HK, have an invitation letter from my PRC agent..............LIVED in Yangzhou for a year.........but am obviously a THREAT

And the gov't is busy ensuring that what tourists do come to HKG are offered 10$ coupons to spend at Ngong Ping when the cable car doesn't work......What's that....a small bottle of water after a 40 minute bus ride up there?

That about sums it up LT....

And now, for a pictorial news flash - This was the scene of the pre-Olympic opening ceremony party in Tiananmen Square:

Used to have a subscription of The Atlantic Monthly, never expected to come across it on this site. Like James, he used to cover China...um, for Los Angles Times?

So, we are being monitored....My flight to Tianjin was canceled! And I don't think that the weather will be so bad at 12:50pm - and...I'm sure the plane could fly 'around' the storm!

I reckon that's just coincidence - there are hardly any cancellations or serious delays at the airport this morning.

I didn't think things were bad enough to cancel a flight. Strange, there's a lot of Air China flights canceled - some quite late this evening!
