I was told yesterday that factories in China had received notification that any factory using coal as fuel will have from June 1st to shut until after the Olympics. No mention of what is to happen to the staff.

The peasants will be revolting.

You used to speak the truth.
But now you're clever.

from the "strandard" today........

More than 93 percent of people in a Chinese University survey said they hoped the Hong Kong torch relay would be peaceful.

More than two-thirds, or 70 percent, disagreed with calls for the Games to be treated as an opportunity to press Beijing to improve human rights or to discuss the Tibet issue.

Eighty-nine percent disagreed with appeals to boycott the Games opening ceremony as a means to put pressure on China.

Ninety-two percent agreed the Beijing Olympics is a precious occasion for the Chinese people.

Nearly 60 percent felt Chinas international image had improved along with organizing the Olympics.

In addition, 12.9 percent said they would be watching the relay, with 37.7 percent saying they would like to so do. The survey involved 1,020 people.

and 100% of expats said the couldnt give a PHUCK ...........................

Yes it was quite funny watching what was happening, all the police boats running blocking while the fire boat sprayed its water jets as the ferry made a loop of the harbor. Then all the police and six motorbike outriders surrounding the runner while around another 10 cars and buses followed. Stopping the traffic as it passed down the wrong lane in front of the Mandarin and they out of site from my office.

Oh yes, almost forgot the swat helicopter flying at the height of IFC2.

What a waste of money...................
