...business class to Sydney.
Which would you choose and why? Asia Miles are the same. Price was the same last time. QF schedule was better for me so I went with them. Decent flight, good food & exellent wine, but what would be the case for CX?

True. Last time on QF mine host was a Steve Waugh type. I was just waiting to be sledged in my seat.

I'd go QF without a doubt. The wine is better, the food is mostly better. The environment is at least as good (and much better than CX's new business-class prison cells if you get them). I don't find CX's cabin crew anything special these days in general, particularly in economy & business. Some of the good ones are still around but it would be chance if you got them (more likely if you were in First).
The other problem with CX is that they have a nasty habit of switching the planes out to A330s with the regional business class configuration (happened to me last time coming back from Sydney), which means seats not designed for sleeping, no AVOD, etc.

No, but flat enough to get some good kip. And they didn't seem to whack up the post meal heating as much as I remember on CX.

Paps,
The CX flat bed is by no means guaranteed going to Sydney, and even if you get it the only thing going for it is that it is flat. everything else about the new business class is worse than the old one (except that the screen is a little bigger).
Another thing for QF, particularly if either of your flights is a day flight, is that you can be sure you will have the possibility of a seat where you can look out of the window, which is something I enjoy. CX new business class doesn't have any seats which allow you to do that comfortably.

disagree. Have flown the new CX biz class a few times and thought it was excellent - even better than virgin upper. Only complaint is CX's obsession with mediocre american comedy shows on their AV system.

Oh I know about the new CX Olympic class and your right you won't get it to Syd as it's not on that route yet but was wondering if QF is flat bed.. never flown their biz
One feedback on teh new CX config is that the seats are very restricting in terms of hip width

You obviously don't do or like any of the following then:
- looking out of the window - travelling with your wife/girlfriend/anyone else who you might want to talk to - travelling with a young child (pretty much impossible) - having the cabin crew being able to serve you with any elegance at all rather than having to stretch over stuff - having any storage space around your seat - having any air-flow around your seat - having room to open read a newspaper
Which is fair enough if you are one of the only group of passengers that CX seems to be interested in: those who travel on their own and simply want a very fast meal, some booze and then sleep.
But that's not me I'm afraid, so my long haul J is going to be on QF or BA whenever possible until, hopefully, CX does a bit better with the next refurb in a few years time.
The new F isn't so bad, but still suffers from the loss of the ability to travel with someone else (although they can join you on the Ottoman in the suite) and the lack of enclosed storage space.

Er, well yes it is actually. Generally one of the flights each day has it on what is known as an A33B (Airbus 330 in two class config with the new long haul business class)

Correct - i only fly biz class when i'm travelling on business. So i guess it's a good move that CX are tailoring their product towards these kind of people as that's where most of the biz comes from.

New business is now on both the direct New York flights, most of the ones via Vancouver, London (747 flights) and one Sydney most days. Occasionally on other long haul routes and randomly throughout the region during the day on flights flown by the long haul fleet.
Interestingly, one the next destinations to get the new business class (and first, which it never had before) will be Bombay/Mumbai. That's a route where the competition is heating up.

What was it I saw on a CX flight back from BKK recently? Kinda fishbone seat config in business class, and very comfortable economy seats with full AVOD. It was a 777 I think.

Jet Airways have just started up too, which will put Air India to shame and give CX something to think about. Now if they could just sort out the schedules & routings.

And whilst we're on the subject of ISC routes.. lets talk about the horrific times that the flights come out of India, Bangladesh & Sri Lanka back to HK.. what is it with leaving at 2am in the morning.. go via somewhere like Sing and then arrive here lunchtime.. Its a killer.. no sleep
