Sadly, the Olympics is a commercial event. More about nations on a league table ....with obscene sporting resources than anything else. Does it stop me from enjoying it? No.

No, try I don't have a residency permit there but I have one in HK. I also have another residency elsewhere. Don't mean I should chop myself up and have my torso residing in one place and my head in another and leave my legs in China does it? What's your point?

And please do not put words in to my mouth that I called all Westerners 'terrible'.

proud of being ethnically (Chinese) Han ???
having travelled extensively throughout all of the geographical area that is politically referred to as china I have constantly been aware of the obvious dominant culture of the Han over what are referred to as the ethnic minorities suffice to say that it isn’t always as obvious to the non Han as to being proud to be swallowed up into the Han notion of what is china.
You mention the Muslims of the north ...you mean the western area of china (Xinjiang) which was also assumed in the 1950’s once again a non Han area who don’t share the views of being proud Chinese ( why would they want to be with all the restrictions on their religious and cultural practices)

......been aware of the obvious dominant culture of the Han over what are referred to as the ethnic minorities suffice to say that it isn’t always as obvious to the non Han as to being proud to be swallowed up into the Han notion of what is china.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Sometimes, it is not obvious, but to westerners in their anglosaxon majority communities, you may not see the 'systematic' pervasiveness of your culture over minorities. But I can assure you it is unfortunately there. Hence, France wants to rule out the use of English. Hence countries saying you must pass an English test before you can get a Visa to live here.

It is always about preseving dominant culture whether in China or any other nation. It is just not painted in the same sophisticated light in other countries.

Well, it mignt actually be on the drawing board in the not too distant future. I am waiting to see how something pans out. I got no problem living on the mainland. You seem to think that I do? I think you do though.

I don't understand your point. I am Chinese and am proud of my culture means I can only eat/appreciate rice and not pizza?

I hate olives but that is not to exclude everything else on the Italian menu, right?

your postings suggest one who has little or no contact / visits to the mainland and suggest that your views of china stem from afar and tainted with an appologists attitude rather than one who is ready to debate the country

I agree. So why are you proud of it?? It doesn't make sense.
