Hi guys, Got a real problem and will appreciate any help. A relative is coming to HK to visit for the summer, he's a 21-year-old American college kid who can't work legally in HK. I know he can always teach English under the table but he is not interested in that option. Does anyone know what other short-term jobs he might be able to have? He's an excellent writer, fairly good with computer, smart and willing to work hard. Thanks.

If he hasn't got a work visa he's not going to be able to take up any jobs I'm afraid. It's a risk for him and his potential employer to be working (paid or unpaid) without a visa. The only work holidays visa delivered in HK are for Australians, New Zealanders and Irish people under 30 (http://www.anyworkanywhere.com/whvchart.html)

up to not much

No need for visa. He could try one of the triad gangs. See if anyone needs chopping up.

You say he is smart and hard working, he could offer them a special smart two for one deal.

No visa, no work or else JAIL.

Can he do any mimes? If so he could dress up and amuse the crowds in LKF. He's got to be better than the 2@ who dresses up as spider-man. On the negative side he might get a good shoe-ing.

More entertainment value than the stick-like 'Spiderman' dude (who seems to be on a permanent acid trip)...

Whatever happened to Melvis??? I'm pretty sure he didn't secure a record deal (unless he got together with William Hung).

to be, or not to be, what was the question?

I know a few toss artists - where is shop going to be? Near Mes would be useful.

You used to speak the truth.
But now you're clever.
