My helper nuked the microwave... she used a wrong cover and it "burnt" the cover and blackened the roof of the inside of the microwave
1. how do you clean the roof of the microwave?
2. most importantly, can you still use the microwave?
i unplugged it and cleaned as much as i can, it is now a shade of grey.
there were no sparks or anything, just smoke coming out of the vent holes.
thanks in advance for any help

no mango - xyx is looking for advice....
...and mine is dump it and buy a new one....they are not a major investment these days. Wife and I bought one from Japan Home nearly 2 years ago for 399 bucks and it's still going strong.

wouldn't chance it. Don't mess with microwaves. Just tell the helper not to do what she did.
btw - out of interest what did she do ?

Lucky it didn't cause a fire - did she put foil or metal inside? If yes you need a new one, as HKbloke says there are cheap as chips these days assuming you are willing to risk the damage.
We will consume 85 million barrels of oil today, what's going to be left for tomorrow?

well she put the wrong type of cover.... she put the bamboo steamer cover over the food not realizing that the parts were "stapled" together! it was one small piece of wire though but the cover was torn and the roof blackened...

There is a device that picks up whether microwaves are leaking from the machine - ask where you bought it.
But the motor might be damaged so you may end up finding it keeps blowing fuses or worse, doesn't blow fuses but catches alight instead.
I have no idea where you would find a technician in HK, though, since the throw-away culture here is pretty endemic. Try at one of the stores where they sell them????
