HSBC allow conversion of their points to air miles.

If you have got any problems with this site send them to Support@HKExpats.com Thanks

I got my new one yesterday, it still says something like Premier Miles on it, but no bumph on what that actually means.
Shall we go off on a mass huff, Paps?

i heard that Citibank have replaced giving away airmiles with their credit cards with condos in Florida. Only problem is the airmiles have a higher intrinsic value.

Citibank is replacing all the cobrand cards with very similar cards without the Cathay badge which have the same mileage earning ($8=1AM in HK, $4=1AM elsewhere) except that there's a special offer in June & July where it is $6=1AM in HK. The annual fee is waived for the first two years at least. The only things you don't get are the double miles when buying tickets on the CX website or duty free on board.

You can set up the account to autoconvert to AsiaMiles each month as currently, or you can leave the points on your card until you want them and then do one-time manual conversion (good for extending the expiry date - there is no expiry while they are on your cards, but once they are converted to AsiaMiles they expire in 3 years). You also have the option to convert your points to other programmes instead of AsiaMiles (Krisflyer, Worldperks or Royal Orchid, from memory).

The new cards have the same numbers as the old ones so you don't need to change any payment instructions, Octopus autorecharge or anything.

We already have our new cards, so I guess you should be getting yours soon.

Emily,

Your new card should have come with a booklet and set of leaflets explaining all the T&Cs. I'm very surprised if they actually sent you the new card without that.

As far as we're concerned, we're staying put with these cards for a while. The rumour is that CX is trying to do a region-wide deal with HSBC, so we'll wait to see what comes of that. If it happens and the deal is at least as good as the new Citi one then I'll probably switch just for the convenience of having everything in one place, but there is the hassle of moving about 7 or 8 monthly autopay instructions and our Octopus auto-recharges.

Smog, thanks for the info, what i meant was, apart from the initial letter telling me it was no longer affiliated to Cathay, they didn't actually point out miles were still earned. In the t&c booklet, quite frankly, when i didn't get the key info i wanted, I gave up. Actually, I also have WorldPerks and kris flyer, so this benefits me, other than the lesser mileage. I would still consider changing cards though, just to see who has the better asia miles deal.

There are no cards out there that I know of which give a better deal on miles that the (new or old) Citi card on an ongoing basis for unlimited spending. Some cards do have some time or amount limited special offers, but often those are cards which come with a fee which they won't waive. For example, I believe that some of the Amex cards will give you HK$4=1AM on local spending up to HK$300,000 per year, but there's an annual fee.
