Yes, so now we have moved on to independant internet sites, which are mainly fed by talking points generated by ...drum roll.....info cut down to bite size chunks/stories in corporation owned media.

And the great thing is now you can find a website that helps to reinforce your original thought. There's one to suit everyone.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Yours lovingly,

I can't judge the local papers, as I can't read the characters, so I'll leave that to others to comment on.
Having said that, nobody is in the newspaper business for the sheer fun of it.
Money talks in most countries, in Hong Kong more so than most.

If you honestly believe that the local papers exist because their owners feel a desperate need to educate the masses in a truly unbiased and selfless manner, you are sadly deluded.

Adfundum, I just wanted to make the point, China bashing is popular because it feeds certain audiences. Western media for all intents and purposes would be very boring and with many unhappy advertisiers if they kept reporting no conflict, no issues, the world is at one or the issue is not as bad as you think.

Trust me, I am far from blinkered by the 'free' press, having worked in governement and media.

As popular as rest-of-the-world-bashing is in China by the govt and people alike, would you say?

I fail to see how that differs from the UK-, US- and Euroland- bashing that goes on here or on other sites/publications/channels.
China happens to be a popular target these days because it has a few skeletons in its closet, which are rattling a little louder in the run up to the Olympics.

I appreciate your points but I think this is simply not true. The average citizen in the West has no bias against China. In fact most of them probably see it as an exciting place of opportunity. But the media do have a duty to report on human rights abuses wherever they occur. China is not being singled out.

china is being treated like any other part of the globe....of course if some dont like it they can go back to the isolationist time and miss out on things like the olympics ec etc etc

Rattle away..... I am here only stating my POV as freely as the next person. I label what I see as 'China bashing', others label my opinion as an 'Apologist'.

I only try to speak about what you or I see is going on in the country and of some of its unintended consequences, and try to broaden the possible reasons for things happening which is counter to what others speculate. That's all.

eg. Some have finally found a use for their Nike running shoes, as a wall between them and slave labour. As long as they see no evil when they buy it, they think they don't engage in slave labour. I say it is a cirlce.

eg. Why not write up the Tian Sq in the school text books, will that stop the critics? No because if they write it up, it can be viewed as too nice a spin/not truthful enough or it can be viewed as being used to send a message against dissent.

And so on.

Puyi, do you have a 5 yr old kid/s or something?

Is that where you get your point of arguments from, for this forum?

The same question could be asked of yourself. In your case your only position is reject and ridicule any other position than your own.
