Point is, Hawaiians and the N. Irish don't want independance from their ruling countries. Tibetans do.
HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO SAY THIS?

<font size="6">TIBETANS WANT AUTONOMY,

NOT INDEPENDENCE

Actually, if Tibetans were offered independence, do you really think they would say no?

Meh. India would probably step in to fill the void. One man's spiritual utopia is another man's strategic outpost.

Answered already. Give the people what they want. Sorry if that's a bit too radical for you.

You know, the thing is, when you start asking too many qstns of do-gooder protesters, these 'always negative campaigners' is that they will always try to take the highest moral ground with the most pathetic of answers. Answers that are not SOLUTIONS...Just as useful as their three word placards and chants.

Juno and Ms Chan, if you REALLY want to save the world (rather than just pu**y footing a round for your 2secs of look at me look at me), you could save everyone under oppression, suppression, depression (me from your BS antics) by......getting UK and USA to become the real moral freedom fighters that they claim to be/love shouting about.

Campaign for them to open their borders freely for an intake of 1,000,000 refugee seekers a year from Tibet, Sudan, Darfur, Burma, Iraq, Palenstine, Zimbabwe, China, North Korea. That way, there will be no need to Free Tibet, Free Iraq from Sadam or anyone else's regime. Those who want to live in lands ruled by USA laws can go there. Those who want to live by China's 'oppression' and HK's 'undemorcratic ways' can live there.

This way, everyone can practise whatever 'culture' they want without fear. And the world's numerous hot spots of human right violations can be solved overnight. (Including my depression from your protesting pollution :) ).

BTW, shocking isn't? That a 1,000,000 refugee intake a year for USA would equal to less than half a percentage point increase in the USA population. At that rate, America with all its resources, has no excuse for not implementing this action ASAP. And imagine all the GLOBAL suffering that would end?

I think you are protesting the wrong country, wrong laws, and wrong government, matie.

And you can add Hawaii indepedance** seekers to the refugee lot too. Maybe do a swap with the UK. Who couold also take on America's oppressed blacks.

**Not to be confused with the Tibetans who are happy with the "Autonomy within China" status.

Bussanti...

you should be able to take a bit of criticism of China in the right way i.e on the chin...

especially as it is fair criticism...China does have poor human rights records, does place restrictions on liberties in Tibet...

USA and UK doing similar things is a case of pot calling kettle black yes yes

but turning this into an effective p1ssing contest with Juno over whose motherland is worse is missing the point (the right for citizens to pass comment, and protest) at best or deflective politicking at worst

Fascist governments (and their supporters) cannot take criticism. This is the way it has always been.

Sure, I agree with your suggestion. Let people vote with their feet. But in that case, will Chinese border guards stop shooting unarmed Tibetans who try to escape to Nepal or India?

It's likely that the flood of humanity escaping China by any means possible will turn into a tsunami.

Hardly. The Chinese government may not be the worst in the world (North Korea and Zimbabwe probably head the list) but it has an effect on more people, so it's more of a problem.

If only the west would open their borders to the tsumani tide of 'oppressed' Chinese, and others such as Iraqis, Afganistians, Palestinians and African refugee seekers who haven't been shot at at the border, but are stationed in squaler in third countries.......

Instead it is a case of stay where you are TO BE SHOT AT, but if you are Chinese or whatever with good english, lots of money and qualifications, go straight to the head of the queue in Australia....We don't want the rest...except for the token contriution to humanity of a few thousand a year.

...With protected borders like that shut in your face, you might as well be shot at.

Bus Aunty,

Why is it the responsibility of the west to open their borders to oppressed people from other regions? Doesn't it make more sense to assist in removing the oppression in those regions first? Your suggestion is not a solution to the issue. In fact, it would just facilitate in the creation of more issues. Can you imagine the state of shock the refugees would be in? Sure they would no longer be oppressed, but think about all of the other things that they would have to do to get by in their new homes (ex. learn a new language, learn locations, learn new vocations, adjust to a completely different society and culture, etc.) Plus, the issue of the "oppression" would still remain in their home countries.

To promote and support the freedom/autonomy of a people, whether it be via absolute freedom as a new nation or within an existing nation, is an easier way to resolve the issue of oppression than relocating the oppressed and passing the responsibility on to another region.
