Homework with my son has become a battleground leaving me drained and exhausted with zero result. I need someone who will come to the house three or four afternoons a week to supervise his homework. He is in Year 4 (aged almost 10) and the work is general mathematics, spelling, language and some research activities. I would be very happy with a university student who is calm and methodical as my son must learn how to deal with homework by himself. The tutoring companies I have contacted either do not come to the home or charge four times the amount I was paying in Australia for a uni student. Is this the norm? Any advice would be appreciated.

Have you asked your helper if she could do it? Most of them have a high enough level of education for that I would have thought (assuming it is all in English).

Thanks for that, but I don't think my helper could do it. Her English is pretty good, but a bit sketchy.

Helpers offering tuition?
Makes a change from prosti-tuition I guess

You could try ITS tuition in Central: http://www.anysubject.com/its-tutorial-school.asp

Maybe she could teach him art?

close. I will ask him - but every afternoon might be a bit heavy as he is just about to start his A's

(what school does he go to where a 10 year old has homework every night !!)

He's at AISHK. The homework isn't that much - it's supposed to take 30 minutes. Unfortunately my son prefers staring out the windows or contemplating his navel!

Have looked at the ITS website and cannot ascertain if they have home tutoring. I will give them a ring tomorrow to see. Thanks.

Just spoke to him and unfortunately it's too close to exams. Suggest you put a call into German Suisse, French International, Island School and South Islabd School to see if they can help. They might know some of their students who are looking to do some tutoring.

However timing is not perfect as exams start in a few weeks.

also speak to ESP education services.

You could try putting an ad on the board at HKU (2nd floor Chong Yuet Ming building). There were a few last year from parents looking for tutors.

Yes, because if anyone knows what you need, it will be them.
