Both are correct, depending on which part of the world you're from and I did hear a rumbling (could even be an old wives' tale) years ago that you could tell if someone was brought up a Catholic according to the way they pronounce the letter "h". Anyways, I use "haitch".

I was at an optician reading out the eye test.
I said ..' Haitch'
The optician smiled and said : you must be from England, as Canadians pronouce 'Aitch' and not 'Haitch'.
I said I never knew. He told me he is from England as well, he says Haitch.
Is he right  .

There's nothing wrong in dropping the haitch from haitch and saying aitch.
Potters drop haitch all the time.
The Monkees were better than The Beatles.

I'm from nowhere and I say "aitch" if I'm speaking English, "ashe" if I'm speaking French.

Run "aitch' through Onelook and you'll get 18 entries in both American and British dictionaries with corresponding pronunciation.
Do the same with 'haitch' and you'll get none. That seems pretty conclusive.
'haitch' is for the Mrs Buckets of this world.
(Lazy - the derivation is from the French "ache" - but I suspect you know that anyway  )

Now that I think of it, the only people I've ever heard prononce "haitch" are French or Spanish people speaking Inspector-Cluzot English.
