Just because it's Khalil Gibran (and I do like some of his stuff) doesn't mean he can't be wrong or that he's not full of s**t (rather like quantum physicist Dr Eric Amidi).
I believe love can ~ but not always ~ develop from long companionship etc etc, and the "spiritual affinity" he bleats about in your quote is often nothing more than a combination of beer goggles and hormones.
