No not all i agree with you - not sure why you think otherwise. And yes we are also encouraging our parents to spend their estate - which they won't of course. Also as far as i'm concerned any inheritance we receive will go straight into the bank and be passed on as part of our estate.

Agree with Smog, but few exceptions, I'd be more than happy to say lend funds to children who graduate and set up their own business, or deposit for first house....that's very common, and have to accept that it often takes years for parents to get paid back. On the other foot, I've just shelled-out GBP50K over 2yrs in legal fees for mee old Mother, which she used in a messy divorce from my Father ! Not sure one ever escapes the issue of family and money....

Whatever...

I'm just grateful that my parents are still alive so that I am able to repay however I can for all their support and encouragement throughout my growing up years. HKBloke hit it on the nail when he said it wasn't just about money.

In response to the topic, I think I would prefer to have the latter because time is too short to be so stressed out. You never know when your time is up.

My Gran, deceased last year aged 91, banged on for many years about how she wished she knew when she was going to die, so she knew how much she could spend.

That said, she showed no inclination to splurge on anything other than brie cheese and garden plants. Bless her.

Brie cheese and garden plants would be good enough for me.

I'm hoping for at least 15 more than that, which given the fact that I've survived to 40 is pretty realistic. Drinking and smoking's not gonna help, and I refuse to give up those pleasures, but healthy diet and exericise I reckon will get me there.

yes of couse 85 is not too unrealistic in this day and age - until you start to think about the long term affects of living in this place for years on end.

Odd you say that. I age by 10 - 15 years the moment I step off at Heathrow - and vice versa when I get back.

Takes me a while to remember to act my age back home.

I must admit that I'd got to the stage where I thought OCH was the best bet for a man who enjoyed the company of birds 15 years younger than himself, but I was in Solas last night and it's just as much fun, and there's just as much opportunity.

Er, TCAG, aren't you a happily married man? I thought I'd met your missus. Or have I misunderstood entirely?

I thought TCAG was being stalked??... and then there was SharonB

Must be these young lasses wearing you out TCAG.

Better keep away from Solas, wherever that is.

Cruisy no., comfortable life. Read somewhere that stress is the cause of 90% of most illnesses. True or not, I choose to believe it.

Without good health, there is a lot less enjoyment of life.
I know now and I hope it's not too late, for me. Yet, I have no regrets for having had an interesting/stressfilled career pre teaching kiddies.

If you've got the stamina for it do the fast job, fast money lots of stress early and then go for something quieter but I must say that I would. go for the most interesting job even if it was paid less. There is nothing worst than a boring and stressful job even if it pays well in my view. The again I think it's all a matter of balance and what you want in your work/life (interesting stuff, travel, working hours, money, power...)
