Depends - usually whichever one I'm doing at the time - I want the other one.

Can I just have a big fat load of cash and the chance to write a book a few years later advising how money can't buy happiness but it was worth a try?

I dunno - that's why for research puposes I'm prepared to give it a try. It might not buy happiness but it makes misery easier to live with.

She wants to retire. However, retiring a burnt out wreck with no mates/social life/an ulcer is not really the aim is it?
Take the wads whilst you still have the time and energy and stress capacity to prove yourself. Later, it all changes.

But later you have the experience which means you can get the well paid jobs.

Working hard does not always mean that you are paid loads. Ultimateley we are all paid what we are worth. The market is normally very efficient.

Yes later it does all change but for different reasons - kids.

Thats what I was talking about. Kids. Slightly different scenario for women and men, though, in that area, as we all know. Get the good job before the kids.
Also, HK has the wierdest work ethic I have ever experienced ( having worked in 4 countries), you need a decent, realistic job here because the same level in other places can be a bit of a shock to the system.

take what you can get now. I strongly feel that the global ecomony is on the edge of a large pit and things wont as good as they have been in my 20 years working life, probably for a f**king long time to come, if ever.

Well, I personally think HK job descriptions can be wide and long but not some encompassing any actual skill. There is also a strong culture of Vice President/Director/ blah di blah, which do not relate to the same level of age/experience/salary in another place.
Bums on seats culture does nothing for the work ethic of a person, it just makes them unable to handle real management of self, time, job.
A decent , realistic job should mean you get a chance to work for a company which offers you the chance to learn something, and offer a further opportunity, with total responsibility for yourself and others - maybe for less money than HK makes you think you are worth. ( not you especially, Paps, just 'you')

Dont agree. Have the kids early so you can have good job security when they are growing up. The idea of being a bloke and starting out on the family journey in your forties (as you see a lot of here) would absolutely fill me with dread. The thought makes me come out in a cold sweat.

Forties is pushing it but mid to late 30's should not be a problem.. and besides how much can having kids really effect a man's work life other than he needs to buckle down to support the family ? He can still go back to work aftre they are born and be viewed the same as when he didn't have kids

i would say that even late 30's is a bit dodgy. Having kids at 40 means that you need to keep having a good income until you are 62ish - which is not easy - unless you have the zillions in the bank already of course or you are self employed.
