Well, if you think my comment was directed at you, Emily... then I don't think you get it entirely.

But if this kid was sick, then she needed medical attention. Not posthumous judgment. You, as a wiser, more experienced adult, would probably recognise an idiot when you see one. A 13-year old who was filled with hormones; who was angry against the world; who was possibly depressed, may not recognise one so easily.

My tuppence worth.

I'd suggest there was a lot more going on that only the one comment about her being worthless. We are dealing with sensationalist media reporting after all.

You used to speak the truth.
But now you're clever.

No, I didn't think you were picking on me, far from it, just saying how people who don't show empathy can still have an understanding. Thanks for explaining though
Like LT says, something may have been missed out of the equation reporting -wise, though I still believe ( having been a teenager myself not without trials) that you can have self worth and some support for yourself , even at 13.

Or alternatively, you could have credited ample parental support; good friends; supportive teachers (yes, a tough one to admit); good upbringing; good education; lack of adverse influence; lack of internet; divine intervention simply pure luck or you were a 13-year old with exceptional abilities (and hence overqualified to be the yardstick) that got you through. I don't know you, but take your pick or feel free to add to the list.

Maybe, just maybe, this 13-year old and those that didn't quite make it through weren't as fortunate as us that did.
