A United States woman has been charged for her role in an internet hoax that ended with a 13-year-old girl committing suicide after being shunned by a boy who did not exist.
A federal grand jury in Los Angeles has indicted 49-year-old Lori Drew on charges of accessing MySpace "without authorisation to inflict emotional distress".
Drew allegedly helped create a MySpace account to contact her teenage neighbour in Missouri, who thought she was chatting to a 16-year-old boy called 'Josh'.
After three weeks of online flirting, 'Josh' sent the girl a message saying that the world would be better off without her.
Prosecutors say within hours the 13-year-old had hanged herself in her bedroom.
Drew has denied creating the MySpace account or sending messages to the girl.

Fair comment Gimpy - telling some one who is depressed to 'pull your socks up there's nothing wrong with you, everyone else has to deal with much more...' or such misses the point about mental illness. it's so much easier when people have a nice wound or some physical ailment that we can feel sympathetic about.

As a 'some' person, actually, you're wrong- i do get it, I have experience of it. But, a 13 year old ending her life because some IDIOT tells her she is worthless - thats such a waste of life its beyond belief.
