I'd like to give a shout out to Thai Hut, Wanchai, for making me a mad spicy lunch

They are indeed excellent value. If fact Mrs smog often gets me to bring her a Thai box from there on my way home from the office.

That's a pretty good little row of places there: Thai Hut, Ebenezer's for a kebab or pizza, and Cul-de-Sac for a Philly flyer or pizza. I'm told by colleagues that the Cul-de-Sac salads are pretty good too...

The papaya salad is rock-solid

I was almost giving up hope of finding food that was properly spicy in this old town of ours

Let me pass that message to the new owner of the Thai Hut... he's one of my old muckas and will be pleased to hear summat complimentary about his new investment

Are we talking about the same place? The one I'm talking about has been there for years (corner of Luard and Lockhart, opposite Mes Amis).

Personally I reckon the FCC does a pretty good lamb vindaloo in the Anglo-Indian style.

it was when I turned veggie at 14 - had to spice it up to de-bland it

over period of time, tolerance goes up

used to be the under eyelid sweat - that passed

now its wet hair at nape of neck hot (and toilet roll in the freezer)

But a few weeks back they totally wiped the menu. Instead of delicious Thai grub we got bland HK style - so poor some guys told the staff they wouldn't be going back. The chicken skins halved in quantity and doubled in price.

By the sounds of it they've come to their senses.

Pacific Coffee sell very acceptable cheese pies. The ones in Boracay are getting rather gristly.
Spit mouthfuls into the nearest bin.

ha ha toilet roll in the freezer... in Taiwan they have this mad spicy Hot pot dish, Ma La Gwor or summat similar, where there is a toilet roll placed on the table, in some restaurants, as some guests need to do the liquid sit down after a few bowls....

It's plenty spicy enough for me, but you can ask them to make it extra spicy if you wish.

Not sure on the price, but Mrs smog got some from there within the last 10 days and the bags seemed the same size as I remembered...

Thai Hut is more than often my lunch time haunt. It's a wonder I haven't bashed elbows with you in there, AKA. I have however just taken a liking to the Chilli Club (over the road next to Makati), top notch nosebag!!

Thai Hut is great. I'm particularly fond of their yum talay.

If Bunners is right about the place blanding out, then there are two or three even more authentic formica table Thai joints above the Thai shops on the street where the Wan Chai wet market is. No signs, just go the back and go upstairs. No menu, just point, and killer hot.

Watchu talkin' about Willis?
