The Wife and I need to hire a DH as we are slowly making our way to the wee one's delivery date. The DH would need to be a full-time live-in with solid English and Cantonese communication skills since we are both under contract until Fall of 2009 and she has to work different shifts at the hospital.
If any of you would be so kind as to recommend a few agencies that you've used in the past, we would be ever so thankful.
(If any of you know any agencies that have DH's with newborn-toddler childcare experience, please pass on their information as that would be especially helpful.)
As always, thanks in advance. David

On principle can you make sure you avoid that one advertising on the TV, where the helpers come through the door in turn wearing national dress and speaking in their own language? The prospective employers recoil in horror, before being presented by the agency in question with a range of perfect Cantonese speaking, short haired, pink uniformed, servile, non-trouble making dogsbodies. Please.

Paps- The baby is set to arrive around mid-November.
TGA- I have no desire to pick an agency that uses TV ads. I think the better agencies would only need word-of-mouth recommendations from their pools of satisfied clients/customers in order to keep their wallets full (especially for agencies that tend to cater to expats since many of us don't speak Chinese).
LT-I have seen more racism during my two years in Hong Kong than I did during my 15+ years of living in the Southern US. Fortunately, for the lack of a better word, I have seen a lot less race-related violence here.

We should be worried that one day Beerguy is in a real bad mood then.

Us locals are just racist pacifists.
I would say more xenophobes that Ku Klux Klan, but whatever lah.
Good luck with your search for a DH. Friends have been experiencing difficulty recently with theirs. (Dissappearing after one week of arriving. Then having to wait for another month for the new one to show up.)

Congratulations again Shippie! Seems that's what I've been typing to you most times!
Went to visit a friend with twins yesterday, and so adorable they are too! My friend found her DH via ~dark side~. Said she interviewed quite a few and finally found one she's very happy with.
Initially her criteria was to find someone who had had twins before. Then it was for someone who's a mother. Finally she figured out that it's better to have someone who's had no experience with their own children but who's willing to learn and to do things 'my friend's' way.
All the Best as Always to you and dear Gladys

Asking friends who are using DH that they are happy with for a referral is one of the more safe bet

Not to detract from your topic, but sometimes asking friends can be a little risky. A lady I know got her helper from another one of her friends and it turned out to be a disaster. 2nd lady was leaving HK and recommended said helper with flying colours etc. But when she went to work for my friend, nothing went well...

SCHippie- don't use an agency is my recommendation- look on darkside and dollarsaver online, and also your local supermarket and recruit a lady yourself. Advantages- you see her, hear her level of language, can ask face to face disaster/practical/common sense type questions, and finally, neither you or her pays the ridiculous agency fee. Its extremely easy to process a helper in HK, the lady herself will do all the work for you.
