Imagine its Monday, would you refer to the Friday in the same week as 'this Friday' or 'next Friday'
I think most people say this Friday, even though this Friday is the actual next Friday and next Friday should be Friday week

Wow.. and I thought I was bored at work.

I refer to Friday in the same week as This Friday and Next Friday would be the week after This Friday.

This Friday for the Friday being in this week. Next Friday for the Friday in the following week. Last or 'forgotten' Friday for last week.

Average by Intention.

If it's causing confusion, you could always use dates.

It's difficult to explain though, logically...why the coming Friday i.e. the actual next Friday, is not so-called

For the avoidance of doubt, why not just mention the date?

I say 'this Friday' for the coming one and 'next Friday' for next week, in both English and Chinese
