One place not mentioned is Sai Kung or Tai Po. Yes, Yes they are not very close but if you have a car it's not bad at all if not, this is Hong Kong, it isnt that big.

Both places have a large expat community and the locals are friendly. The houses are large and cheap. The air is fresh and both places are one big park. Both have international schools for primary and secondary within a 10min reach. Both have facilities catering to western tastes if your inclined. Including the after work pubs.

Tai Po offers townhouse style houses with shuttle to the KCR. The KCR only takes 25 min to the main network if you don't mind public transport. As well as having a pool, tennis courts and 24hr guards in some. Sai Kung, who needs a pool? You have the ocean in your backyard. With a car, both places only take 30 minutes.

I live in the New Territories and although it's not as convenient as Hong Kong Island. I wouldn't live anywhere else. Sorry to the DB residents but I wouldn't want to live there either.

great, no offence, we don't want all to live in the same places, do we?
Sai Kung is ok... in fact for me DB is as ok as for some Stanley, Mongkok and Gawd forbid, Midlevels is ok also. So is Peng Chau.
China mainland also is ok... Not?
You ok, I'm ok,
