Zaitsa, There are a few property agents in Tai Po Tsai, Clearwater bay Road & Silverstrand which could offer property minutes away from HKUST. I am sure you can find an apartment within Tai Po Tsai village that will suit your budget, or 2km further, you could ask to see places in the Mang Kung Uk village, Pik Uk village, Ha Yeung, etc. etc. really depends on what you are looking for.
Washing machine provision really depends on the landlord, some provide one, some don't. And you will need to hook up your own interent connection with a local provider. Just a reminder, you will need to pay 3 x monthly rental up front, that comprises 2 months deposit, and one month rent in advance. If you use an agent, you will have to pay half month agency fee too. Check and confirm that govt. rates (about $1200 per quarter) are included in the rental cost (normally included).
hope this helps
cheers,

Thank you for your advises. Do you know if I need to have a car in that area ? I have a baby and I am a bit concerned by public transport. My daughter is only 4 months old so I don't want her to catch bad flu. If I need a car, where can I rent one ? Thank you in advance for your help.

Some families in Clearwater bay area do have a car, but I think you don't really need one because public transport is fast, inexpensive. If you think you might want a car, will cost an extra HK$800/month for car parking space rental, although you might want to search for an apartment with car parking space included. Renting a car is an expensive option, a small car would cost about HK$2800/week.
Most people advise staying a hotel for a few weeks, so you have time to search for the best options, it is easy to see when you are here, you can always deciede about the car later.
good luck.

Thank you for all informations. I was thinking about rent a room guest house for a 2 weeks or a month and then a real apartment. I think you are right about the car, might be a problem finally more than being convenient. wish you all the best, see you maybe next time on an other discussion.

i don't think that whoever answered about the car has a baby... if i lived out there(am considering moving out there next year) i would DEFINITELY buy a car.. public transport is great in HK... but have you ever tried to get around with shopping AND a baby??? i have, and it's NO fun at all! stairs, stairs, everywhere stairs!

Thank you Carang for your advise too, you are considering moving to the same area ? Do you when you will ? As I am going to be new, I don't know anybody there, so it will be nice to meet people. How old is your baby ? Mine is going to be 4 months. Bets wishes

Just a thought. Perhaps just hailing for a taxi is easier? N.T. taxis only charge $12, instead of $15. And you can get their phone nos. whereby a chain of taxis will contact each other to get to you and your location a.s.a.p.
Oh, and it's said that there's something about DB, that it's the place to get preggers Could it be the Fung Shui?
I dream again
