Okay I have a shipping question. I want to start a small business and I need to be able to ship my product from Asia. I do not have container like quantities of goods to ship, so what would be the cheapest way to ship/send things to Europe without eating into my profit?

I'm bored, I'm pi*sy, and, I have no shame.

My following answer can *at best* give you one trail to pursue:
the Hong Kong TDC (Trade Development Council?) might have some solutions.
They should be promoting exports. This is just a guess and could be
settled with one phone call, probably. You can compare prices for identical
lots (size and weight) from a variety of shippers, including HK Post. You
never know. Good luck.

You can also try to share container-space with other exporters, that have the same problem...
A good freight forwarder should be able to arrange this for you...

It's amazing how good your English is at times Mango.

I wait for the day when schools have all the funding they need and the airforce has to have a cake stall to raise money for a new bomber.

Life,

Best is to shop around freight forwarders. You would be going LCL i.e. not FCL (full container load) if you are less than about 22 cbm for a 20 ft container. On the other hand, the cost of about 12-13 cbm is about as much as FCL. If you try to consolidate with other senders, it can be a lot more hassles to save a few bucks. Forwarders charge more per cbm for the LCL, but then you don't have to wait nor be responsible for the consolidation.

Shipping to Europe is more expensive than back dictated by the market, more stuff goes there than back here. You need to include other costs like terminal handling, documents, local pt-pt transportation, insurance, etc. They can give you a breakdown.

Don't forget to compare postal rates for smaller amounts. Much depends on the weight/volume and frequency of your shipments.

And, consider shipping direct from China especially if the stuff are made there, as it costs more to ship down to HK and the charges here are higher. The services and schedules are getting better all the time from China and I see it additionally as saving on truck lines, fumes, time, etc. crossing the border. But, it means gain for Chinese mainland biz, less for HK.
