WASHINGTON (Reuters) - George Bush, the president's father, would like to see another Bush in the White House someday, saying on Tuesday that he would want his son Jeb to run for president when the timing is right.
Florida Governor Jeb Bush has repeatedly said he does not plan to run for president in 2008, trying to dampen speculation that another Bush could be on the next Republican ticket for the White House.

Now This IS scarey!!!

I seem to remember my mother talking about the big hoopola over JFK being elected (mind you it was not a landslide victory) and being Catholic. All the Protestants were having hissy fits.

Another thing against Jeb is his wife is a minority. People might not want to admit it, but all that will play a part in how the "good 'ole south" will vote.

Lastly, unlike his brother GW, "God" has not appointed him as a successor! You guys do know that one of the big TV evangelical preachers, right before last years election, proclaimed that "although GW was not the brightest candle burning, everyone should vote for him, because God had chosen him". (granted I can't remember his exact words, that is the Gist of what he said).

I'm bored, I'm pi*sy, and, I have no shame.

I don't think the world could live with another "Bush", its just to much hard work. I would much prefer to see Mrs C. be the first woman in the White House. Not just that it would be like having Bill back.

A woman walks into a curio shop in San Francisco. Looking around at the exotica, she notices a very life-like, life-size bronze statue of a rat. It has no price tag, but it looks so striking she decides she must have it. She takes it to the owner: "How much is the bronze rat?"

"Twelve dollars for the rat, a hundred dollars for the story," says the owner.

The woman gives the shop owner twelve dollars. "I'll just take the rat; you can keep the story."

As she walks down the street carrying the bronze rat, she notices that a few real rats have crawled out of alleys and sewers, and begun following her down the street. This is a bit disconcerting, so she begins walking a little bit faster.

Within a couple of blocks, the group of rats behind her grows to over a hundred, and they begin squealing. She starts to trot towards the Bay. She takes a nervous look around and sees that the rats now number in the thousands, maybe in the millions, and they are all squealing and coming towards her faster and faster. Terrified, she runs to the edge of the Bay and throws the bronze rat as far out into the Bay as she can. Amazingly, the millions of rats all jump into the Bay after it, and are all drowned.

The woman walks back to the curio shop. "Aha," says the owner, "I'll bet you have come back for the story."

"Actually no," says the woman. "I came back to see if you have a bronze Republican."

Good joke!
Jeb Bush - I think that most americans would resist. It would start to look like a Bush entitlement and the whole "royalty" issue would start to rear its ugly head. The presidency should be earned, not inherited!

Ummm sws - the last election was "finessed" not earned, by all reports. When was the last time a US president earned rather than bought or fell into the office through mischance??? Probably Jimmy Carter.

You mean the rolling of the eyes? Probably deserved it since my knowledge of US internal workings is limited. But heard an interview with Jimmy recently and was pretty impressed by him as a person - yeah I know the hostage thing was un-bush-like. Or am I going down the wrong track?

In a major sign that President Bush believes he has a huge mandate from his reelection, he's changing his name to "God."

"Bush has already remarked that God wanted him to be President," a top cabinet official says. "By changing his name to 'God,' he's just making it official."

Bush feels this will cement his authority, says the official. "Bush can't wait to send a bill to Congress and say, 'Pass it. It's God's will.'

"He told me, 'Whenever Democrats raise objections to my plan to privatize Social Security, I'll just point to our currency where it says 'In God We Trust' and say, 'See? It says In ME we trust.' And when protesters insist I should be impeached for lying about the war in Iraq, I'll remind them that the Pledge of Allegiance says that the U.S. is 'one nation, under ME.'"

Bush also feels changing his name will give him more clout on issues like teaching creationism in schools, faith-based social programs and abortion.

Finally, the President also thinks it will help win the war on terror. "When I say to the radical Muslims, 'This is the voice of God. Surrender!' they'll stop attacking us," Bush told the aide.

Hey gringo, you mean it was not "finessed"? Does a second time round based on the politics of fear and the first time based on a faulty voting system mean it was not so? Excuse me, I am from a country where the normal vote is 95% or so. Even if the proportional representation system means sometimes a party gets in without majority vote. From my small country point of view, GWB got in for reasons other than being "the best person for the job".

I'm sorry that you feel wronged by the US elections...fact of the matter is the 1st win was not won via a faulty voting system...it was won, like every other presidential election before it, by the system in place; the electoral college. The second win was a blowout...not because of 'politics of fear' but for a myriad of other reasons (the majority of which don't get much international press b/c they're domestic issues).

Was the best person possible put in the White House...probably not...was Kerry a better option...certainly not.

Nah - how can I feel wronged? The politics of fear is something that happened in a lot of countries post 9/11 - why do you think the US was exempt?

I am not claiming that the US was expempt from post 9/11 fears. I am telling you that this is not an exclusive reason that GWB won his second term as you claim with this statement:

What gives you away...the following statement:

first time based on a faulty voting system

The voting system is not faulty...it works just as it was intended to...it's in place to make sure that our metropolitan centers can't dictate policy for less populous states i.e. a candidate cannot carry CA and the NE and win the entire election...

As for your use of the term finesse...that's the business of politicians...it ain't pretty, and I don't like it, but it's all we got...show me a politician who doesn't use finesse and I'll show you one who's not getting elected. Therefore I took your use of it as an innuendo for underhanded dealings in order to get elected.

How can you feel wronged...well, I hear it all the time...people complaining that the US elected the wrong person...In the end isn't it the citizens who need to determine who is the right person to carry their country forward? There's a lot of problems in the US domestically that need to be rectified...GWB is moving us forward to getting quite a few of these fixed (though there's still more that need to be handled).
