Are they really necessary? Isn't it possible to use an ordinary blender/chopper, a microwave and any old steamer? It makes me think of when my first baby was born and I was conned into buying a "bottle warmer" before realising that I could just as easily — and far more conveniently — warm up the bottle in a jug of hot water.

a baby cook? oh my gawd.....no cannibalism here please :) hehehe....
yeah a jug of water will do.....or simple.....start with warm food and let it cool to the right temp.
how about a microwave?
so unless your kitchen is a whopping 600 feet you dont need one!

Thank you for your nice advise but recent research prove that microwave can be dangerous for health(cancer for example) and anyway, I have never had any microwave in my life. Ordinary blender/chopper +old steamer will cost me more and will use more electricity and take longer time that the baby cook. If I cannot find it I will order it from my home country. Which seems to be not as bad as people think.

I totally agree. I believe that microwaves remove any trace of nutrients from food. However, I have no idea what a baby cook is...

A baby cook is a steamer, blender/chopper all in one. You can steam, warm defrost and chop vegetables, meats or fruits . It is prefect for baby because other blender sometimes does not give the right concistence for baby to learn how to chew.
About Microwave, believe me there is a risk of cancer if you already higher risk to have one (because of family history). My sources, from a doctor for Cosmonotes.

Zaitsa - what "recent research"? Microwaves are 'non-ionising' energy ... that is, it is not in the same type of energy that things like x-rays etc come under. Microwaves do not strip electrons from atoms in other words and so the energy differential is totally different. Basically all microwaves do is excite water molecules within food causing a conversion to heat energy and voila! food is cooked.
Yeah ... the motors that RUN the microwaves are electric and THEY like any electric energy (eg your blenders, TV's, vacuum cleaners etc) are a problem, coz electrical energy IS ionising energy ... so you don't expose kiddies to too much of those ... or yourself during pregnancy. So make sure either they are placed above kiddie and gut level and make sure you just don't stand in front of them for extended periods. But the FOOD coming out of microwaves is perfectly safe wrt radiation - it is only heat energy, and heat energy is the least dangerous of all energies, being the most dissipated.

Oh ... Crone ... actually if you use a microwave properly you actually preserve nutrients better than steaming and definitely better than boiling, coz you don't add water that takes the nutrients away from the food, but use the water that already exists within the food. But, it is a fine art and most people (including me, lol) don't do it properly. Actually, I don't like the taste of microwaved veggies all that much when done "properly" to conserve nutrients, coz they tend to be a bit tough.
