I am thinking of heading to Beijing for the easter break, see the wall and all. Has anyone been there and give me some recomendations on what to do, is it a safe place to go on your own, etc etc.......
Cheers

It's reasonably safe - just be cautious about ripoff merchants as you would in any tourist place. You may get hassled by people trying to extort fake fees if you go to some of the less popular parts of the wall, but you'd be fine at, say, Badaling.
The main issue is that if you don't speak the language then getting around and seeing the place is a bit tricky - you tend to be limited to hotel-organised tours and that sort of thing, although The Summer Palace, Forbidden City and so on are all easy to do in English, as is the metro.

I got an email from a friend today. She described the Beijing sky at 10:30 this morning. She thought there had been an eclipse because the sky was so yellow and dark - perhaps a prelude to sand storm season.
