I'm looking at potential areas to move to at a later date, and quite liked the relaxed feel of Lamma Island on a recent visit there. What are your opions of Lamma Island as a place to live? What, in your opinion are the pros and cons of living there? One thing I've heard is that some places there can't have a landline phones or Broadband installed.
A penny for your thoughts.

if you could handle missing the ferries and have to wait for an hour, getting sampan in the middle of the night when you are completely pished, no 7-11 or supermarkets anywhere, walking home in the dark with dog s**t on the paths, having little creatures as pets, etc... i think you would absolutely love that place.

Why on earth would anyone who is not a hippie move to Lamma island? You can't exactly get a taxi home when you are pi55ed.
Sabrina, don't just stare at it. Eat it.

As a new arrival, I'd suggest stay on the island for a few years, especially if you like a social beer or three. Later, if you want a more relaxed outlook you could consider somewhere like Shek O/Sai Kung/Gold coast - as PB says, at least you can hail a taxi to get home in the early hours.
We will consume 85 million barrels of oil today, what's going to be left for tomorrow?

Hmmm, after the friday night just gone, I think that perhaps being forced to go home early would be good for my liver and wallet.
:-(
Thanks for your thoughts on the topic.

You don't go home early, you just go back to Lamma early. Then you get hijacked at the Island Bar / Tinhead / Diesels / Deli Lamma. While it may be better for your wallet, your liver WILL NOT thank you for a move to Lamma

shazz what kind of little creatures do you have as pets ????
I am an American - born and bred. And I wouldn't want it any other way.

Oh cool, thanks Mini Mao. Shall definitely check those forums out.
I like the idea of drinking with walking/crawling distance of home. It's much more compatible with the lifestyle I led in Melbourne before moving to HK.

My friends love Lamma ,have lots of pals and social life there, there is food and restaurants, rents are cheap, yes a bit hippyish perhaps and the ferry thing is a definite issue... but more friendly than Central for sureif you are a yuppy maybe not for you though...

"no 7-11 or supermarkets anywhere"
I think that's one of the good things about Lamma: every shop, restaurant and bar is an independent business, not some outstretched tentacle of Li Ka-shing or some other gigantic property developer or multinational.
The rest of HK all looks the same: Wellcome, PNS, Watsons, Giordano, McDonalds, 7-11 etc etc etc.
