I can remember when this all hit the news in Nov 03 there were immediate comments about the infidelity of the husband and 'sympathy' for the wife in understanding what she must have gone through to commit such an act.
Now it appears that the prosecuting case is based on her infidelity back in the US and that her actions were driven by personal gain.
Clearly we haven't heard the opening statement from the defense yet but it's interesting to see how ill-judged the initial reaction may have been.

Somehow people more readily believe it's the man who's unfaithful.

well of course, however it will be interesting to see what comes out over the next days and weeks - but you have the think there is another side to the story.

I feel really embarassed and a little worried about my initial thoughts on this case. I too assumed that he had been unfaithful and had pushed her over the edge and that somehow he "deserved" some part of this. Now, I am worried about my sexist assumptions. I realize that we don't have all the facts yet, but that didn't seem to stop my silly assumptions when it happened.

I think everyone did - especially whan the press (at the time) started to dig up 'stoties' of indiscretion on his part. We may still find that they were both less than perfect.

I am sure that they were both less than perfect, but would I have made the same assumptions if he had killed her? That is what is making me uncomfortable.

Wait for the defense. From what I heard on the grapevine, once that is revelaled it will be a tabloid reporter's wet dream.

Expat wife who is alleged to have murdered her husband (BSD at Merrills) by clubbing him over the head with his #9 iron whilst he was asleep and then hidding him in a rolled up carpet in a store cupboard. Took place in Parkview in Nov 03. The case has just started.

The ultimate irony (hah). She was obviously a golf widow before doing this and just carried it through to the logical conclusion.

Folks will do just about anything to avoid jury duty:
Potential juror excused after second try
A potential juror was dismissed before the murder trial of Nancy Kissel after he told the court he would not be able to give a fair verdict when he realized the accused was Jewish.
Nancy Kissel is standing trial in the High Court for the murder of her husband, Merrill Lynch banker Robert Kissel.
A deputy general manager of a factory in Dongguan, Lau Kin-po, originally sought exemption from sitting as a juror because his factory is going through ``restructuring'' which requires his supervision.
Justice Michael Lunn dismissed his objection since another employee could easily take over his role, as would happen if Lau fell ill.
After two more jurors had been selected, Lau raised another objection. Remembering that he and other possible jurors had been informed by the judge that the Kissel family were members of the United Jewish Congregation on Robinson Road, Lau said he would not be able to pass a fair verdict.
Lunn asked him if he were implying that, because of race or religion, Lau could not be impartial. Lau replied that he held ``a position'' in the Arab-Israeli conflict. In a stern voice, the judge said simply, ``Go.''

Yes, I have to admit too I jumped on the bandwagon and privately thought 'what a bastard'...poor woman, a lesson for all these errant husbands.
Today's paper says it wasn't a golf club she killed him with?
Even the golf club became a figure of many jokes didn't it?

Uhh trying to remember now, I recall one....something about getting a 'hole in one' with her shot (when it was reported she'd delivered a fatal blow with a golf club)

She doesn't look like a scheming, cold-blooded murderer to me. But then again, what do I know?

Whats the story with the witness? Some people would do anything to get out of jury duty. I would like to know if he could explain the conflict, or point out either "Israel" or "Arab" on a map.

That's because there is something like 70 prosecution witnesses lined up. I undestand Macaulay Caulkin, Jay Leno and Elizabeth Taylor are scheduled to appear
I have a cunning plan ........

Ooooh, the wheels of justice turn very slowly, it seems.
