FYI:-
TAMIL Tiger rebels struck at the heart of Sri Lanka’s tourist industry yesterday with a suicide boat attack that killed at least 16 people and sparked looting in the historic southern city of Galle.
....But yesterday’s raid signalled a dramatic change of tactics by the Tigers, who had previously conducted their two-decade long struggle for an independent homeland in the north and east of the country.
It also threatened to cripple the tourist industry in Sri Lanka’s south, which has continued to attract visitors to its beaches despite the 2004 tsunami and an upsurge in violence this year.
Rather vindicates my post of 6 months ago where FOTH was calling anyone who warned that SR may not be the most perfect holiday destination, "ignoramuses "

So you (CwbGuy) won't be going to London, Madrid, New York, Oklahoma, Delhi, Bombay, Bali, Manchester, Washington, Manila, Bangkok, Tokyo, or anywhere else that there has been a terrorist attack in the last few years then?

have some very nice hotels in Negombo which is about 40 minutes drive from colombo
had a very nice stay there

GDV... I stayed in Negombo recently .. the hotel we stayed at was shockingly awful but I see there are some others there whcih looked nicer

yeah some are awefull, and some are nicfe..........i dont remember however whats the name of the hotel i stayed, it was hoevver very nice, lots of wood, big open air reception area.......lovely lazy colonial style chairs on the balcony, and great food!

FOTH-where your argument falls down a tad is the fact that in the countries you have named the attacks happen on a very rare basis. With Sri Lanka it is pretty much a war zone, and to take your family there now is just plain irresponsible.

Cwbguy... declaring SL as a "war zone" is a slight exaggeration. I was there a couple of weeks ago and you see nothing in terms of war !
It's like claiming India is a "war zone" because of the classes in the Kashmir region
