What is your most hated piece of software or technology?

I would like to nominate Microsoft Word. A few years back it was a good program - fairly easy to use and it did what it was told. Now in the office XP version Microsoft seems to have decided that it's users don't actually know what they want to do and so have given Word a life of it's own wherby it does things to your document without you even asking for them. for example - Why does it always stick inserted pictures stuffed up in the top right hand corner of the page even though you very carefully inserted them mid-way down a paragraph.

sorry...having a (very) bad Word day.

Word Perfect is actually more user friendly, but I'm forced to use MS Word since most other people are using it.

Most Norton/Symantec programs are extremely unwilling to my opinion

can't understand who buys them, let alone use

Since I posted this i've been doing some research and it appears that OpenOffice.org - a free open source alternative to MS Ofice which has been around for a while but has never really got any traction - are just about to release V2 which apparently is a major step fwd and puts it as a viable contender. It's 100% compatible with office file formats.

Think I's worth a try.

What is it about Word that you don't like? I would put Access higher on my unusable lists. Tried lotus, but that just brought up similar probs to Word. I am interested to know what the difference between word and the openoffice is, if anyone knows.
