Doing some decorating - just emulsioning the walls - but finding that the paint is peeling off almost immediately in isolated areas. Presume it must be humidity related.

Does anyone know if the commercial decorators treat the walls with anything before painting over ?

Bloke

you need to remove the old paint completely, plaster the wall as necessary, sand down the entire wall, apply one coat of sealer (primer) and then apply your paint. minimum 2 coats, but better 3-4 coats

you need to prep the wall, HK walls are painted with "some sort of powder paints" .......to which nothing sticks, so u need to clean them off first (dust free) and then prime them first!

then you can paint

correct Mango?

yes, correct. but powder is in all Emulsion paint around the world, it isn't specific to HK

Bloke, try roughing with medium grit sandpaper, then washing with sugar soap. This will give the new paint a key and get rid of all the grease and grime that maybe on the surface of the old paint (not implying your a mucky bugger).

Same thing happened to me.
I got a tub of some white plaster stuff, just put it on with a trowel,
then sanded it down. Piece of cake!
Even for a girlie!
