I'm doing up the flat from scratch. Looking for some modern style furniture that looks slick but not extortionate prices. I'm willing to spend around 100k on sofa, table, chairs, sidetable etc.......
Been to shambala/TQ but wasnt our style.......trying to make the flat look styled but not like some catalogue cover.
Done the whole happy valley thing too but too expensive for what is is: 35k for small dining table.
Anyone know a hidden away goldmine?

There are lots of other more contemporary furniture stores in Horizon Plaza. It's certainly worth taking a few hours to go beyond the first 2 floors and explore the building. 'GOD' is in there as is 'Inside' and loads of others.

There was thread in here a while ago about getting furniture made to order on the mainland. Maybe that's worth looking into. I think it's done in Zhuhai IIRC (I'm too lazy to search for the thread but it's no more than 3 months old).

Also, we've planned to put a stone look material on the wall. I noticed when they were putting it on that there was a lot of wood involved behind the stone. Has anyone had problems with this? (termites etc)
I tried GOD and it wasnt bad. went to most of the stores in horizon plaza but not really modern in style.
Anyone had a bad experinces with some materials or cutom made stuff in HKG?

I had my entire flat kitted out with custom made furniture from one of the local furniture design companies. It's all made from MDF, made in China and after 3 years is still holding together well and still looks pretty new.
As everything is custom made then it all fits perfectly into the nooks and crannies within the flat - of course it means that if I move then it probably wouldn't fit as nicely in a new flat.
I have a cunning plan ........

if you go to the furniture shops along queens road in wanchai, many of them will custom build furniture for you if you take them the pics... indeed i believe certain of them have the TK catalogue and will make copies for about a third of the original price. for more contemporary inspiration, try ovo on queen's road in wanchai. also go and wander the higher floors of horizon plaza. also try some of the outdoor places like resource asia, which has a lot of contemporary outdoor stuff, which would be just as good inside...

I used B&B in Wan Chai, the place is great. I ordered my furniture recently and got delivered within 4weeks (Delivery time will depend on the amount of furniture you order). They have a nice contemporary style, you could choose you design and colors as it pleases you. Prices are definitely cheaper than anywhere else (U.S, Europe). check it out, you wont go wrong!! + Free delivery and assembly

What's wrong with IKEA exactly? Some of my furniture came from there and it has been assembled, disassembled, moved round the world, reassembled, disassembled, and so on multiple times and is still in excellent solid condition. And for basic home accessories (simple crockery, cutlery, and so on) they take some beating - for me a home is somewhere comfortable and functional - I'm not trying to create a work of art.

IKEA is evil because of their purchasing practices and s**tty disregard for EHS in the factories they source from. They are satans little helpers and I despise the corporate c**ksuckers with spite and venom.
Trust that explicity outlines my thoughts on those f**kers?

Well, if they have that kind of money to spend then it's up to them, but personally I'm with hk_juno on this. That kind of money could be better spent on lots of other things but if you've already apportioned that kind of money on furniture, there shouldn't be much in the "to wish" list and you've probably got a lot of things already.

To be honest I really think it is none of our business to pass comment or judgement on how much someone wants to spend on this or any other item - good luck to them.
There are people that have much more spending power than i have and conversely there are people that have a lot less. That's the way the cookie crumbles as they say.....
