Berlitz sucks..
With Pimsleur you still want a native speaker to listen to you and correct your pronunciation, but at least you will be able to hear and understand. Rosetta stone.. allows you to see, read, write, and speak Talk to me now... looks good, but I have not spent too much time with it.
Another thing is looking online for any free online soap/opera/drama series that might be offered by the BBC for learning Dutch.

Ohh and Chubby, for what it is worth, learning a language from a spouse, is very, very difficult in my opinion as they become very critical and take the fun out of learning.

Have looked at Berlitz books and other mediums to learn Cantonese and they are all useless! My Cantonese (what little I have) has been learnt from my wife who has shown that these books sometimes are nowehere even near with their phonetic spellings of native language.
So learning from my spouse was the best way, and she never became (or becomes) critical of my ability or pronounciation. But everyone has a different way of learning so needs to find the way that suits them the best.
Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out and meet the bloody thing!

HKBloke, you can learn many things from a spouse. For example...
You had no idea about clothes before you met her. You can store things other than beer in a fridge. Salad can be consumed in place of a meal. Birthdays and anniversaries should be written down, as to forget them causes much pain. Any question containing the words "bum", "look", "big", "in", "this" should precipitate a swift, resounding and convincing, Pavlovian objection and denial from you. And of course that old favourite, the importance of the toilet seat and its relative position in space and time.
[:D]
I've just read a book on old Chinese wisdom. Here's a quote:
"A husband's fear of his wife is as natural as the heavens and the earth. It is the Universal Truth." --Lee Zhong Wu
Lee says that in many countries, it is a woman's fate to be subservient to her husband. However, the higher in the social order you go, the more the man will respect and fear his wife. The peasant treats his wife like a dog or a horse, and as a consequence is little more than a beast himself. A man who fears his wife will conduct himself properly, and will rise in the world. Lee maintains that fear of one's wife is a virtue, and if everyone were afraid of their wives, a truly beneficent social order would come about.

My compliments and congratulations to you HKBloke. Well done, man! [:D]
Going back to the original topic...
I had a Dutch girlfriend once, who taught me some of her language:
"Ik hou van je" ...and... "Ik wil je beffen". [:0]
She said they were the only phrases I would ever need. [:x)]

HKB: I knew what you meant, but that was the cutest answer I could come up with... ... .. Azreal: I love your quotes. I think there is a lot of truth to that. I think even more so, if we look around in the world today, we can see that it is very true.
