The wife has left it up to me to organise our Summer vacation this year. We want to stay in the region.
Looking for ideas and suggestions for places to go where we can keep 12-14 year old boys entertained. We have done Club Med and they didn't really enjoy that. Ideally we would like something like Mark Warner but I don't believe they are setup in Asia yet.
So places with lots of activities/sports/(safe) excursions so the kids can go and have some fun leaving mum and dad to sit by the pool getting drunk/sunburned/relaxed.

are you an Aussie? Fiji strongly recommended by my sister-in-law and others as kid friendly and kids adored by local hotel staff who organise everything... but not in this area, really and seldom advertised here...

I was trying to get to Fiji and if I remember rightly, you have to fly via Aust. or NZ to get there from HK. A very long trip. If you know a quicker way, I would love to hear it. But yeah - Fiji is ab fab for kids and parents.

Curious HK Bloke why didn't your kids like Club Med? Did you? and where was it? My sisterinlaw didn't like the Tahiti one either(Bora Bora I think ,wished she'd stuck to Fiji...

While we are on subject ,can anyone recommend a reasonable Phuket hotel near beach ,not up a hill near Kata beach preferably with shade trees?

I think a lot of it was down to expectations. We were expecting an Asian Mark Warner but didn't get it. I think CM is great for younger kids but just doesn't work for anyone over (say) 9 or 10. It's not an English/French thing. What we need is a Centre Parc kind of thing Fuji is too far away.
Looking for a standard hotel resort that has lots of facilities on-site plus some interesting excursions that are safe enough for the kids to go on by themselves.

Langkawi in Malaysia? Several places ranging from basic to ultra-elite.

Miss P.
When I went to Phuket a few years ago I stayed at a place called 'Phuket Cabana Resort'. It was right on the beach. Do a google search of it and you can see the details. Although the rooms are not as good as they look in the pictures, the position was good although it was Patong beach.
It was pretty good though and convenient, although the 2 days I spent there I was pretty drunk most of the time so........
