Hello Forum :)
My name is Sebastian and I am a student from Germany. 3 months ago I started a website to find rooms or in general accomodation in Singapore. I did so because within my studies I went to Singapore quite often and there has never been a good site for finding accomodation, that is free of charge. However, this site (http://singapore.roomsDB.net) has become a huge success. So I thought why do I just use the php engine that I had already programmed just for Singapore? Thats why I post into this forum. :) I have decided to port the site for Hong Kong as well. I have been living in Hong Kong for half a year before (at HKUST) and I felt there might be demand for it as well :)

Wow, thanks a lot for all the positive feedback! I really hope the site can be as successful as the Singapore one, but I do think chances are quite high. You can all help me by spreading the word and telling me what could be improved!

Hi Sebastian
There is a small mistake on your site. When you go to "read enquiries" the date is wrong. like today is the 2006/08/01 and not 2006/09/01
Don't see it as compalint, just want to make you aware.

Could it possibly be that these are the dates from when people will be looking for accomodation

Westie is right, the dates shall show from which date people are looking for accomodation (from) and for how long they need it (until).
but thanks for the remark, perhaps I should make that more clear!

Does anybody have any suggestions for the site? How could I make it better, more user friendly or what else features could I build in? I would really appreciate any further comment on http://hongkong.roomsDB.net !

hi, yes, you are right, the choice of language...! It makes a lot of sense in Singapore,though.But for HK I will add traditional Chinese in the next week. Fortunately my gf is Taiwanese, so that would be no problem. :)
About the hitcounter: Yes, I am working on a counter that will display how often a posting has been viewed and then I could also do some statistics, like most viewed posting and so on. Also I was thinking of making a more advanced filter, where users are able to black out postings without pictures or agent postings...just some ideas!

As I said earlier found site to be just what I'm looking for!! Thanks- but i made a typo when posting. Couldn't work out how to edit my mistake- so I deleted post. I will rewrite later. Can you edit once it has bee displayed?

hey stella,
cool that u like the site. Well, I wanted to keep everything very easy, thats why I do not ask the users the register. Of course, this also has some disadvanteges, like you cannot edit postings once displayed. You can just delete and rewrite it, just like you did it. Well, what I could do is also ad another link to the authorisation mail, which would be an EDIT link. I think this is quite a good idea for the future. Yeah, still got some work to do.
You all can help the site to be more popular and thus better! Just add a link to your blog and tell your readers about this non commercial site! It would help the site go up in the google rankings! And please tell your friends!

Well, was still hoping for some donations to finance this hobby... (although got 0 $ since the beginning, looks bad).
So instead of the paypal button you would prefer google ads on the right and left side of every page?
