My girl/friend wants to come out to visit in the end of October/beginning of November. We've had a look at prices but was wondering if you lot know anywhere that would be cheapest. Cheers in advance for your help.

It's much cheaper for her to buy her ticket in the UK. There are far more offers from a good selection of airlines. Airlines usually have special offers running every now & again, so check their websites. Good luck!

If you are really price sensitive and have time to spare then you could get better pricing with indirect routings - perhaps Aeroflot via Moscow or Air India via Delhi... Direct you are limited to BA, Cathay, Qantas or Virgin.

Where in the UK is she coming from? If she has to connect anyway (in London) then it's often just as convenient and cheaper to connect instead in another European city,

KLM are often very competitive and can bring her with one change from many regional UK locations. Likewise Air France, Lufthansa & even Finnair. Emirates & Gulf Air fly from Manchester via the Middle East & also have good deals from time to time. Perhaps also try Finnair.

Aeroflot & Air India are indeed often cheap, but a bit grim.

Whenever my friends or family have come over from the UK, they usually get their tickets with one of these European airlines: Air France, KLM, Luthansa. They aren't direct flights but transit time is usually minimal and gives you time to stretch your legs and get some food or whatever.

Qatar Airways are offfering very cheap flights from HK to Europe right now. Might be worth trying them for the other direction. I think they're pretty good too.

Someone just pointed me to this new airline company called oasis (www.oasishongkong.com). Perhaps worth checking out. They will be flying to and from london-gatwick as of October 2006. Fares start from 1,000 HKD (!).

funny, keep a good eye on oasis, they bought 2 747-400's from Singapore Airlines, Miller is going to scare the s**t out of CX & Co
