this top ten was taken from the weekend australian newspaper.
the criteria for being banned do not involve drugs, shock tactics and swearing.

1 Je T'Aime (moi non plus)1969- serge gainsbourg & jane birkin

2 Strange Fruit,1940- billie holiday.
(strange fruit is about southern lynch mobs)

3 God Save the Queen 1977- sex pistols

4 What a Wonderful World 1968- louis armstrong.
banned after 9/11 alongside the songs "war" the cure's "killing an arab" and (filthy)phil collins "something in the air"

5 Jazz from Hell 1986- frank zappa
was slapped with an explicit lyrics sticker...although the album is instrumental.

6 Straight Outta Compton 1989- NWA
contained the song "f**k tha police"

7 Back in the USSR 1968- the beatles
banned by moscow's 'ministry of truth' and claimed to be "fomenting communism" by the US right wing john birch society.

8 Another Brick in the Wall 1980- pink floyd.
banned in sth africa, after young blacks adopted 'another brick'

9 Tell Laura I Love Her 1960- ray peterson
banned for glamorising death, after a 'rash of death disc's' which included 'endless sleep' and 'teen angel'

10 Give Ireland back to the Irish 1972- wings
was banned in britain and ireland. a song/album about the muderous 'bloody sunday'

there it is. some surprises indeed.

my fav' would have to be the frank zappa album ;-)

Aaaaahhhhh "God save the queen, the blessed regime"... takes me back. Didn't that woman from No 96 do a version of Je t'aime????? My parents wouldn't let me watch no 96, but somehow brother and I managed...

Amazed that justify My love extended mix by madonna is not on there - but maybe it doesn't include re-mixes.

What about 'f**k Off Noddy' by Ian Drury & the Blockheads - that's missing as well.

i can't believe this......greek singer 'nana mouskouri' has sold more than 300 million albums, recorded in 6 languages. she is now 70 and doing her last tour. that is amazing!
all she needs now is for one of her albums to be banned. hahahahahahaha

What about "Why'dya Do it?" by Marianne Faithful, that was pretty shocking!

I wait for the day when schools have all the funding they need and the airforce has to have a cake stall to raise money for a new bomber.

I remember when I was a kid (about 12), I won a copy of her album at the local show.
Even at that age, I binned it as soon as I got home.

Actually, I quite liked Broken English, that track was banned in Australia though!
