Hello everyone,
I am going to move to Hk probably, next month. Currently I am on the lookout for an apt on lease for a long duration like a 12 month lease or so. As my office is in Central, if you all could suggest to me residential areas which are safe & good to live in. I am open to travelling as long, what I am looking out for I get.
Well below are my specifications -
- Preferably looking for a studio /1 B/r or evn a 2 B/r Fully/Partly Furnished Apt on Hk Island or other Islands too. - Closer to MTR / other trasnport facilities/ & or grocery stores nearby. - Budget is 4-6k HKD a month. Negotiable though can give max 7k too.. - Also what is the average cost of utilities like gas/ water/ electricity/ internet/ telephone on a monthly basis.
I would appreciate if i could get information on what do ask for, in utilities which should be included in the rental if I am looking for a fully furnished apt.
Someone told me "South Horizons" is like a huge Complex & is good place, where is it exactly & what would the rent be like there..any ideas??
Appreciate your response & any information from end.
Thanks Amethyst.

As far as I know, the standard lease in HK is 2 years, but I guess you should be able to negotiate less, and in fully furnished places, it may be SOP.
South Horizons has nearly 10,000 apartments, and is nowhere near the MTR(I think it's near Ap Le Chau). I assume they have their own shops etc. I'm not sure of the cost, but I'd be very surprised if you could get one for <7K/month. Furnished as well? you're really pushing it I think!
I know one guy who pays $8K/month for a 1 bedder in Wan Chai. Is a tiny, tiny place though. But that's the cheapest I've heard about ever. People not too far from the same place are paying $50-100+K/month. HK is a very expensive place to live, and you'll pay dearly for every square foot of space you have.
For the price you're talking, I doubt very much that you'll have utilities covered as well. My rent is pretty high compared to that budget, and utilities are not included, nor was the place furnished.
Are you relocating on an expat assignment? or moving for personal reasons? Is your employer paying you a living allowance?
I wish I could offer some positive advice, and some people will be able to give a better idea, but $4K/month is really not enough oney to live on in Hong Kong for rent and utilities. You must think about quality of life as well, will you have enough money for food and any sort of lifestyle after you pay rent and bills?

If your office is at Central then Olympic Station is ok as it's only 2 stations from Central I suggest you also look on the east hong kong side eg. North Point, rents are cheaper there and $5 on the minibus takes you to central. Cab fare around $50

Most rental contracts now are for two years with the first year fixed and an option to terminate in the second year with 2 month's notice.
