Hi,

I am new here. My husband has been offered a job in Hong Kong and he is being provided accomodation at this place

www.kingswood.com.hk

I wonder if anyone out in knows this place. I would be most grateful if you can tell me whether this is a good place to stay? Any idea how's the market rental rate here and whether it is convenient to travel from here to Hong Kong/

Thank you very much in advance!

I don't know it, but from the website it's about as far away from Central as it is possible to be! Way up in the NW New Territories. The bus seems to be the main way in - the Citybus site claims that the 969 from there to Central hong Kong would be about a 40km ride and take about 75 minutes!

Alicia, that's out in Tin Shui Wai, an area which as Foth says is far from Central. It depends on where your husband will be working. The area has a hotel and shopping centre, so there are facilities, but you might well feel a bit isolated out there.

If someone says "leave your money on the fridge" then stay away!

Alicia, you should call the bldg mgmt and ask them these questions aside from looking for a good map online to help you get your feel for Hong Kong.

To get to Yau Ma Tei you would probaly be better getting to the KCR line in Tin Shui Wai then using the West Rail down to Mei Foo then switch to MTR and then down to Yau Ma Tei - total journey time I would of thought of about 1 hour.

I have no idea where Shajin is in China but to get there your husband would have to cross the border at Lo Wu (by KCR East Rail) or at Lok Ma Chau (via private car or shuttle bus). To get to Lo Wu you would first have to go to Fanling or Sheung Shui and get the train from there - I guess there are buses that go from Tin Shui Wai to Sheung Shui but am not sure.

I would suggest you consider living somewhere on the KCR East Rail - perhaps Sheung Shui, Fanling or Tai Po - that way the commute for both you and your husband would be relatively easy. If you lived in Tai Po then the commute to Yau Ma Tei probably would be about 30 minutes.

I have a cunning plan ........

hi and Welcome,

It is a remote location, but sort of handy for Tai Po. Personally, I would say the location is not recommended for a first apartment - I reckon it would be pretty lonely out there.

[EDIT - oops that shows it has been a long time since I went to out TSW............deleted nonsense about KCRC / TSW]

Tin Shui Wai (TSW) is not near the main KCRC rail network, you will need to catch the lightrail, which is more like a tram, from TSW to Tuen Mun

Errr...... last time I was in TSW there was a KCR Station - yes you would probably have to take the Light Rail to get to it but you definitely wouldn't have to go as far as Tuen Mun.

Guys, this is Alicia's husband. I suppose you can adress me as "Mr. Alicia".
Many thanks for your kind assistance, hope there is no on-line bickering here. :-)

Mango,
I hope u r not dead serious in that TSW is a "great place to LEAVE".
Look forward to relocate in about 2 month's time and do you guys meet up in person?
I guess the public transport in HK would nullify all the distance issue, I hope.
