A friend of mine works for the UK passport office and its true, its simpler and quicker than in the UK.

At least there is someone there who you can actually talk to unlike sending the paperwork like in the UK.

If you have got any problems with this site send them to Support@HKExpats.com Thanks

I have a Canadian passport and a Uk passport. The UK one is so much easier to get! Thank your lucky stars that you have it

When you Brits have to renew your passport, do you get a BN(O) Passport or normal one?

Eh? BN(O) is a special status granted to any HK Chinese who wanted it prior to 1997. It's almost completely different from a British (Citizen) passport.

Very easy - for self and kiddies......

Also, most FOTOMAX shops in HKG have some program which will sort out where your head sits in the shot for UK passport requirement. They'll sort our the nice paper (white) backdrop for you too - just tell 'em its for a UK passport...Got my ppt done in about 1 week.

to be, or not to be, what was the question?

There is also a machine in the area where you wait to submit passport applications at the British Consulate which takes photos in the required format (and takes Octopus for payment).

True Smog - but strangely enough, the guy who 'manages' the machine (he's not always there - and it's best if he's not), speaks little English and I've seen him confuse people to the point of exasperation with his sign language...

I wasn't aware that there was someone. What help do people need to use a photo booth?

Not sure - I was thinking the same - it's much akin to the lady at imm dept who 'helps' do your photo-copying, as far as I can see.

It's probably some sort of 'customer service' the booth owners give to the consulate, therefore the guy isn't always there.

Save for the security guard who played around with my PDA (which I had to leave at the counter), it's probably the most painless experience dealing with the British Government, or British "services" in general.

There was a lil' ol' lady there last year. Seem to recall she checked you were doing everything right - not smiling, covering your face and so on - communicated non-verbally of course.

must say, it would have been a pain to do the photos myself and then get sent back for more if they weren't acceptable.

the only 'issue' I have is that when I got my last passport replaced (arriving from Australia and heading out to Vietnam), the bloke who was processing the new passport insisted I should have applied for a new passport whilst I was on holiday in Australia????? Urm, yup, I want to spend my hols sitting in consular offices - much better than a beach or being by the pool!

* I'm still waiting for the f**king invite letter for the visa from China; apparently they were going to kindly give me a single visit visa letter but my client has told them to take it and shove it up there arse. f**king useless c**ts.

Aaah! I sent in my ppt last Thu (with 'invite letter' from our China agent). Got Schenker Travel to process it - so prolly paying thru the nose for nuthin!

I expect I'll get a single entry visa - but WTF, I won't be goin to Beijing or Tianjin for any spray painting projects for a while - the PRC Gov't has stopped such heinous environmental practices - - - - - - - - whilst the Olympics are on. Then, it's back to VOC city...Perhaps I'll be back in TJ/BJ sometime in September! [extreme sarcasm]Oh, what a nightmare[/extreme sarcasm]
