OK, so I have now booked the holiday.

The first seven days will be driving a camper van from Sydney to Brisbane.

So where should we go and stay at ?

What good places would anyone recomend between the two places, remembering I only have 7 days driving ?

If you have got any problems with this site send them to Support@HKExpats.com Thanks

Npt really, its 1000 km, so divide that up by 7 and its only 142 km a day.

Sounds to me like an "RV" type getaway.

Only for the first 7 days. We are then getting the train overnight fron Brisbane to Cairnes, staying there for a few days on the beach.

Mind the stingrays.

I remember a spectacular croc-attack story from years ago in that part of the country... woman was sitting on a pier, dangling her feet in the water (despite the signs warning people not to). Croc leaps out of the water and drags her under. S&R parties take about 5 days to locate her body, wrap it in tarp and lash it to the side of the boat. On the way back, a huge mofo croc leaps out of the water, grabs the body in its teeth, tarp'n'all, and swims off with it.

Best mind the crocs, too.

ServerGuy,

I think you will find that there are no real good beaches in Cairns itself. There are better beaches as you travel further north up towards Port Douglas. Definately no surf up there because of the reef. But, if you are looking for some lazy days of doing nothing much and just lazing around, I would think that either Palm Cove, a little resort town north of Cairns, or Port Douglas would be a better option.

I used to live up that way before coming to HK, so if you are looking for anything specific let me know and I will try to think of some of the stuff up that way.

A couple of links for your reference.

I would limit time spent in Brisbane...stop at port maquaire, after that make a big day of driving as the closer you get to brisbane the more there is to do..see Tweeds head, byron bay(do the sea kyacking), Surfers/ gold coast..if you have kids send them to the Warner bros them park..or the sea world thing..Do you scuba dive?
