apparently 11,000. And they do business class for 470 one way. One of the chaps from Dragon Air is heading things up

Remember that only around 10% of seats on each flight are available at this price, so book early.

Their anticipated average yield is over HK$6000. One way or return I'm not sure but clearly a few more people will be paying more. One way business class is around HK$10,000 I believe.

Edit - just clicked the link. A bit lower than 10k it seems . Pretty good deal if you can get it.

I tested it out on their website and the average 'cheap' fare is HK$6300 return.

I think I'll carry on using Malaysian, Gulf, Emirates etc.

We have discussed this as length on here before and worked out by the time you pay tax and all that s**te then it will come in not much cheaper that a Cathay ticket

I for one, would so not do a budget flight for 12hrs to the UK.. Imagine just for one second Easyjet service but long haul

No ta!

I have already booked and had no problem securing my seat for HK$1,000 each way plus taxes the total amount I paid is HK$3,640 which is by far cheaper than any other airlines price.

That sounds like a better rate. How did you book?

Mind you, I am with Paps, I couldn't handle a 'budget' flight long-haul.

I simply registered on the website and booked and paid by credit card.

As for the numbr of aircraft they have, well currently they only have two, but I am sure they have taken this issue on board, and I guess they will have to either charter a plane from say someone like Branson or put passengers on an alliance aircraft.

I heard Air New Zealand were offering 3,540 + taxes round trip to London sometime starting this month, and theirs is a daily flight.

I would prefer paying that little bit more that then flying a budget carrier.

Oh dear - you haven't quite grasped the concept of a Low Cost Carrier have you? If the plane goes tech or they, at their absolute discretion, have any reason why they can't carry you then you have a simple choice: your money back or a seat on the next flight when they do have space. There is no way an LCC would ever pay another carrier to take you. Just do a quick Google on Ryanair, Easyjet and people like that to understand the model.

Airasia do what FOTH says on a quite regular basis in Malaysia... and that's often after "unscheduled" delays

is it a real plane or d you fly on the back of a trained bird or something??

I am an American - born and bred. And I wouldn't want it any other way.

I think Oasis have not really grasped the low cost model. If I understand they plan to have IFE and upgradable meals.

If their costs are not low how can they call thermselves a low cost carrier. I think they will fail.

I'm sure Stephen Miller, their CEO, knows what they are doing. One would expect the founder of Dragonair to know a thing or two about the airline biz. Oasis is regarded as a threat by the competition. Most of them e.g. Air NZ and Cathay Pacific have been advertising low fares. Advertising, because only a very few people will be lucky enough to actually get those tickets because of the small number of seats available at that rate. I am told that Oasis is a big hit in the UK. Flying with a low cost carrier is more of a common thing there I guess.

On another note, unless you fly business or higher class, or have member privileges, I think the service of whatever airline you choose is quite basic nowadays.

Flying in economy long distance is just hell unless you are lucky to get 2 or 3 seats open to yourself.
I just knock myself out with sleeping pills the whole way. I cannot stand it otherwise when I can't get an upgrade using mileage.

I do the CX Hong Kong - Amsterdam run in cattle class on a regular basis, and it murders by lower back every time.
Company has a rule about flying business, so no choice but just to grin & bear it.

At least I get to keep & use the miles (which is a rant all to itself...).

Wouldn't mind trying the Oasis gig, once they fly to more convenient destinations for me.

Adf, do they often give you an extra seat or are the planes full?

The Amsterdam route is normally full, since they switched back from 747's to Airbuses a few years back.
This means 2 things: a nice flat sleeping chair if you get upgraded, or canned sardine-like experiences if you don't.

I don't fly enough anymore to keep my Gold status, so it's a gamble every trip.
