we've seen a lovely rental apartment which we really like in the Peak Mount Austin area - however, we're not sure what to do as its quite expensive but one of the nicest appts we've seen so far - we've heard that the clouds are really low most of the year - any advice - before we take the plunge?! the area is quiet which is great and teh apartment overlooks a park which is ideal for the kids.

I have friends who live there and love it but I have had friends who moved away because it was depressingly foggy and overcast much of the time.

It's cerftainly cooler up there which is a big plus but also more humid so you need very good insulation and dehumidifyers.

we have just finished a renovation project there. i wouldn't live there for free. from the 3 month we worked there maybe 10-14 days we was able to see the sea, the rest is just foggy and huminity above 100 which means that all eleven AC had to run all the time. wont pay the electric bill either. also don't forget the traffic congestion in the monring and evenin during rushours.

almost always friendly and polite

Yes, traffic is serious pretty often because of rush hour and incessant roadworks or floods.

Mind you, it's fab and serene and calmer up there.

How about the south side of the Island? There are very nice apts and most of them facing the sea.

Don't do it. You see nothing but fog for most of the year. If you wanna live at the Peak, don't go higher than Barker Road.

CAB> my better half lived there when she first arrived in HK, it was lovely in the winter dry months, but summers were hell, she used to say, with constant dampness everywhere, they had clouds / fog coming in one window and out the other, clothes were always damp... lower mid levels is much better...
