OK but double check that bus terminal before you set out. Mo Chit usually sends busses north to Chiang Mai. I have a sneaking suspicion that you might need the southern bus terminal in Thon Buri. But since I always fly I might be wrong.
It's christmas, and it's peak season, you'll still find somewhere to stay but definitely not as cheap as non -peak saeason

mo chit is only to/from north & east thailand, for service south you'll need the bus station at Pinklao-Nakhon Chaisri Road
there's also a bus service from Khaosan road, bit more expensive (600-1000 Bhat)
There are 10 kinds of people. Those who can read binary and those who don't

This thread looks pretty much dead, but I just had a quick question: If I wanted to go to a beach area for one night and one day in the Bangkok area, where should I go? Originally, I was thinking about going to Bangkok for three days and then Phuket for three, but the more I think about it, the more I want to spend more time in Bangkok, but I also want to go to the beach...which beach would be a good one that's not too far from the Bangkok area?
Thanks!!

There may well be places closer to Bangkok but the closest I've been to is Pattaya and that's a horrible beach. But if you must, go around to Jomtiem.

Jomtiem, cool, thanks! I'll check it out.
What about places like Ko Chang or Ko Sumat? (the one between Pattaya and Ko Chang - not quite sure of the spelling)
And where should I stay when in Bangkok? I would like to be located near the cool markets and the club scene.
Thanks again!!

Never been to Ko Chang, I believe its getting over towards Cambodia. Too far for a day trip.
Ko Samet might be possible but it is further round than Pattaya. I haven't been there since the 1990 world cup but if I remember correctly it takes about 2-3 hours to get there

Okay, so I think I've figured it out:
Bangkok - Dec. 21, 22, 23, 24 (afternoon) Damnoen Saduak (just for the floating market) - Dec. 24 (night) to 25 (afternoon) Ko Chang - Dec. 25 (night), 26, 27 (afternoon) Bangkok - Dec. 27 (night) to 28 (my plane leaves @ 3:30pmish on that day)
How does that sound?
I've looked up the ways to get to each place on the Lonely Planet, but I'm not quite sure how I'll be able to get from Damnoen Saduak to Ko Chang. Any suggestions?
Thanks!!
