I'm thinking of taking the kiddlets to the Philippines for a holiday after Crimbo - need something close, beautiful sands / sea and good seafood - decent hotel. Any recommendations so I can book summat up fast.

LT... still want to get your pants wet? I may not be around that time but I will let you know if my travel sked has changed.
Puerto Gallera is ok too. You will have to travel by bus for about 1.5 to 2 hours from manila and then get to a ferry to bring you to the island. You can ask an agent to arrange for you the transportation, back and forth. But the place has too much people. Anyway, there is a nice remote beach around the island if you can hire the a jeep to bring you there. Some of the houses there can be rented for a few days of your stay. The owner will not stay together with you but will visit to clean or cook if you asked. Most people can speak english. Try to bargain for the price.

Cebu is close, 2 hrs flight...... try Shangri-la resort, good spot.....
But defo not Hilton....

yes.. shangrila is nice and well maintained... too pricey for my wallet tho...
