'K - we had a company purchased return air ticket Oz-HK-Oz that had a year limit and have just used it to return this time. I am wondering whether we can purchase just a single return to HK this time and in future do our returns to Oz ex-HK. Only coz the cost of sending money to Oz to pay for ex-Oz tickets seems to outweigh the benefits of a cheaper flight. BUT I am wondering if we can enter HK without a return ticket if we are on conditional work and dependent visas? Anyone had any experience of this?

Also... I remember that a round trip ticket can be less expensive than a one way!

I know where we live, we can't come in on a one way ticket if you do not have a work permit. But then you have to be in the country to get a work permit anyway. You might be able to look this up on the immigration / visa website for entering HK. Don't you have some sort of residency established? We ended up forfeiting our return ticket and now fly r.t. from here. SO if you do not mind losing the ticket back.... ...

ws - I thought so too, but just found out today that the one way is just $10 over half of the round trip. So that is why we are considering it.

I was told by a travel agent today that it is not the HK side but the Oz side that will stop us travelling without the requisite promise of entrance. I will check this out, but wondered if anyone else had their exiting country immigration prevent them from exiting???

Water, is the word Katolique (as spelled) a belgian word?
Forgive me GT. This question has been killing me. But how can your own country insist that you come back?

Catholique = Belgian, french way. Katoliek = Belgian, flemish way. Yours could be Brussels way... mixing both, lol.

Jeez that is weird GT. "Gut-feeling" the guy or gal didn't know much about immi laws? How on earth can you be denied entry in the country you are an accepted national from? Ok, don't know about Australia but it seems too far fetched!

Wasn't it mango who wrote katolique? And maybe it was a normal spelling error?
Life, I think Aussie immigration is just ensuring the safety etc of Oz citizens, not insisting we return. No point leaving this country if the receiving country won't accept us? But they are maybe more strict than the receiving country coz I doubt whether HK immigration would give a *** as to whether we have a return ticket. I have never been asked to show one, even on a tourist visa.

Katholisch would be German/Austrian way, if not mistaken.
GT, not insisting to return is one thing, denying entry for a national is another game, don't you think so?

Yeah - it may be that the travel agent was erring on the side of caution and maybe the Oz immigration do too. Maybe the Oz govt doesn't want to pay for return fares, lol. I guess I will just have to check it out this side, since different countries seem to have their own rules ... Europeans seem to get away with a lot more than the rest of us...

But Mango that is not what you posted elsewhere, which is what made me ask...
So GT what are you going to do?

I will make the decision after doing a bit of further research. The cost of sending $$$ to Oz has been a bit high for us lately but maybe now the China Govt has moved to "de-peg" the yuan, things will get a bit better. So there are so many factors my mind is spinning, lol.

GT, the last trip I made here before I got married was a one way. No problems in England or in HK even though I was just coming in on a tourist visa at that time. Obviously since then we've just booked return tickets from here.
Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out and meet the bloody thing!

GT - I bought a ticket from HK -OZ - HK and had no problems when I came back into HK. I am not a HK resident, do not hold an ID card, and just came as a tourist. I also have no ticket to go back to Oz or any other country. I have an Aussie passport and never had any problems! Hope this helps and hope you're enjoying your time back home!! :)

BTW if you cannot sell the return in hk, do it when you are in oz. or can you sell it here and transfer it to someone else? anyways, there are a variety of options as there are species of GT's.
