It has been a long time since I was so emotional.

The Crone, another friend of mine, my driver in my car and one van plus driver made our way to the Home Of Love at 3:15 on schedule.

Thanks to all of you, the HKexpat family, we had at least 150 different items to donate.
We unloaded everything and then sister Joanna gave us a tour of what the home is about.

Much more than an orphanage, it's a shelter for adults and children as well as being a soup kitchen.

I ended up crying because it is so well run but run down that I felt like we had chosen the right the way to go with our charity.

So, this time it's toys but they need virtually EVERYTHING. For kids and adults.

Sister Joanna said they will feed 400 people Christmas Day. Not only the residents at the home but neighboring needy folks.

Needless to say, many of them have children and wow are they in for a nice surprise !

Thanks again all. It was a real eye opener and we done good.

Love you
Chicago

Thanks for the feedback, Chicago.
I'm glad you saw where our stuff went, and that you think it will be of use.
Amazing what we can do, really, isn't it?

Ok, i can help with toys (not so lego type things) and kids books. But they are all in English.

Just give me some time to get them together. No prommises before xmas but i will try.

Chica, can you send me something 'official' for donations for my old company, (who hate me since i left) and i can then pressure them into something. As well i as my current and sister companies. (Printing and toys)

MIC, I'm slow today - what do you mean? Happy to help. Do you need a letter or something like that?

Just a flyer or as print out of the charity. I am not asking for govt registration but my old company have LOADS of kids stuff. If i contacted my old boss and ask him out of the blue to donate s**t, he will ask for proof. Even when i worked there and was donating he asked me to get a letter from the company that made them before he could. I know that is proper protocol to do so but......they are Singaporean.....ie...tight fisted arseholes controlled by the book.

By the way, English books are even better. They all get free English lessons twice a week by people who donate their time.

Yes, I am definatley OK to do things on an ongoing basis. I have clothes with the tags still on that I foolishy bought for no good reason. New pillows I don't need. All sorts of things they can use.

Do they need anything else apart from toys i.e. for the adults? Or clothes for the kids? I'm constantly weeding out stuff that my girls have outgrown but barely worn, for a start.

*edit*

Question answered! Maybe we can organise a semi-regular gathering for other donations, like we did for the Christmas toys?

Yeah - now we've done this we can try to do something more often - or even 'adopt' a charity.

Chichi/Crone> Would it be possible to get an idea from the Mother Theresa Home of Love of other items that they need?

As with toys, I'm sure we all have misc stuff we're looking to donate to anyone who would welcome and need it... I have a b/w HP Laserjet printer that I never use, for one thing... and a handful of perfectly useable, old mobile phones that no one would pay money for, but are lying around in a drawer not doing anyone any good. I'd be thrilled if they could all go to a worthy cause.
