Not really a debate as such, but just having come back to Hong Kong and then flying off again yet to another country, I'm beginning to wonder where do I really belong?

Home is always home velvet...if you try to listen to yourself when you talk you will always say your home...that is where you were born. You can go everywhere, anywhere...but you will always say your home is where I came from[;^)]

Not quite sure about that! Home is where you feel at home. Although I come from London when I'm back now I feel like a visitor. I've lived away for a lot of years now, in various places in UK and worldwide, and that gulf always widens the longer I'm away. My home is here in HK, it's where I feel at home and know I will do for a lot of years to come.

I agree with jaykay.
When I go back now to the place where I was born and where I lived for several decades, I feel like a tourist, visiting. Today my home is HK.
That doesn't mean it cannot change in the future.
For sure never will return to Euroland to live there but we could move to ther places in the Asia-Pacific regio and if okay feel at "home".

Home's where I hang my hat...

Like Ws, I enjoy going to Euroland once or twice a year, but would not easily consider moving back there to live. Asia is our home now...

I wouldn't go back either. Home is where you feel relaxed, feel safe, feel comfortable. It's the place you want to go when you've had a crappy day. It's where you want to get back to when you've been away. For me that's here in HK.

chubby, the trouble is, I never lived where I was born...hence my "kinda lost heart".

jaykay, then does this mean I belong here too? I understand what you, WS and adfundum are saying, and I don't disagree, but I still feel like an outsider. I also know that this isn't our permanent home as we plan on retiring (long way off still though but) somewhere else. So perhaps home for me is... where my kangoos are!

I don't feel like an outsider Velvet even though I live in a mainly chinese area. I'd feel more of an outsider now if I lived in one of those little safe haven expat areas with the rest of the self-segregates!

For me this is my permanent home and I do plan on retiring here, long way off though it is!

chubby, I have to do them after I get back from my trip. I'm flying off tomorrow again. I'll be in touch with HKBloke about it. Will you be there to give me drinks and wipe my forehead? *grin*
