I heard it's only a few 'families' who are in the run in that place.
Let's ask the godmothers and their "consiglieris" (bad sp, I know).

she should step down voluntarily..the trouble in phil. politics is once they are in power..they have the tendency to become power hungry and they have the illusion that they are already God and Saviour.. Just take a look of some of the past presidents..the likes of Marcos, Estrada,to name a few..they were just forced to step down..nobody did it in their own volition..(who wants to anyway?)..they depleted the peoples money and the country's natural resources..the country is bleeding to death..economically..and they still have the nerve to show the world that they are innocent!..duh!

ergo..with Arroyo's husband..the fat and slob looking First Gentleman..so with his brother named Iggy..alias Jose Pidal..so with his fat and trying hard actor son..these three are all involved in a gambling scam..wherein they are receiving 10,000 U.S$/ a day..as a bribe..just imagine the gall of these people!!! they are so very and out of control greedy people!! while the rest of the filipinos are dying in hunger and poverty!!

If she has the nerve, she should just resign..the country and the economy is stumbling down..
Nobody is qualified to run as president in this country as all of the politicians are morons and imbeciles..they're just plain blah!blahs!
need I say more!![V][V][V]

changing the President is not the best solution to the Philippine economy......as maranatha said a lot but all is true.

Filipinos use much of what they called People's power to make a ruler step down.....but I don't think they always use it in the right way....if she will be impeached who will take over????it will be the same....it happened before and it will happen again.....people never learn about that. And I can say that a lot of poor people in the country (which is 70% of the population)depends too much on what the government can do with them.....if you hang around in Manila a lot of Filipinos are not working, its not that the government can't provide them a job, its becuase they are lazy to find a job, it works that way, if everyone in the country will be responsible for their own selves then I think there will be a change. Not blaming others for the poverty they are in now.

Besides there is no government without corruption, it happens everywhere in the world not only Philippines.

I am all for people in power to learn from their mistakes, rather than chucking them out just to have another make the same mistakes ... we shall see.

Yeah mango - but you are looking at a relatively new democracy as opposed to the old ones in Europe etc. If you look back in time to Europe, for ex. , corruption immediately followed royalty. It takes time and all we can do is pass on positive experiences and support, instead of bagging them out. IMHO, I think a female is more likely to learn and act on these lessons, rather than a male with all their hidden agendas.

Aren't all govts corrupt? Isn't corruption measured on how well the general population is faring? If people can still eat and clothe themselves then do we not tend to turn a blind eye.

I'm bored, I'm pi*sy, and, I have no shame.

i think they should find out first what really happened .....after all Arroyo seems a lot better then her pre-deceesors......

who'll be next.....another money gobbler.....

think before you act....dont only complain....try work out a solution first.

as i see marantha....she's just rambling but not coming up with a solution.

Conclusion: The govt is blessed by the voting herd for lying and cheating?
Because that was the point. Great example indeed, if so.

And one wonders why I wouldn't wanna live under those conditions. (Some countries in Euroland style, US style... Hope not Phillipines style.)

Noooo - now who am I directing this to???? Sabi and Ws, I guess. And maybe life. Yes, there is corruption in all govts, coz absolute power etc etc etc. But there is a difference between mature and immature democracies. And that difference is both the power of the press and the confidence of the voting populace to enforce change. Singapore??? I would regard that as an extremely immature democracy. The people there have not evolved in terms of personal power for nearly a decade. They have not been challenged enough and are still in the pre-adolescent, parent-will-look-after-it, stage. Extremely immature.

Yeah ws, govts may be blessed for lying and cheating, but the systems allow that lying and cheating to be plastered across the front pages of newspapers, on the TV and talked about in govts. Like having kids, you have to let the populace make their own errors, in the hope that one day they will choose to make the right decisions. Such is democracy. Good and the bad ....

GDV- what do you think is the solution then God?
Let us know..since you are expert in everything..incl. politics, history economics, geography etc.etc..[:x)]..why not put up your own cooking school then like what Jamie Oliver does and recruit all those filipino chefs in HK, that way you can help them...that will be a good solution..

Pres. Arroyo should step down because she cheated in the election..
Who will be next??

it's a 64 million $ question!!![:(][:(][:(]

maranatha> how did you know that Arroyo cheated on the election? people in the philippines claim it to be, but its not, because Arroyo got the votes from the "absentee voting scheme" thats what makes her win the position.

"Blessed"? = church lingo, not exactly a word I would use regarding any Government.
The simple fact that these democratic elected leaders can get away with it says enough about the maturity of their voters.
Bill got impeached for his minor sex lies. Other leaders committing war crimes get re-elected. What a world indeed!

And here we have it: 'in the hope that'...
All I see in such statements is the regular superiority feeling of the white democratic voter, excusing the abuse in the name of democracy and at the same time pointing the finger at the non-democratic systems as the EVIL on Earth.
And btw, I do not look at S'pore as a democracy but more as an enlightened dictatorship. In fact an example in some ways for so-called democracies. Emphasis on "in some ways" as for sure it will be taken out of context by the "better than thou" league.

Anyone who accepts, or even worse, condones and approves liars, cheats and thieves...
Oh well, nothing to add then. That is really too mature for me!

i agree with you that it's messed up right now (but it's not the only one in the region that's messed up). on the other hand, what's with the clean toilets bit?!? i'd think that they were hero's in their own right, swallowing their pride and dignety and finding ways to uplift the living standards of their families back home in any way they can. i hardly find this to be a joke. and FYI, not all Filipino's who go abroad end up being DH's or Drivers. Numerous countrymen and women are in the Medical Field, ICT Industry to name but a few.

insensitive remarks like these really make my day.

Wasn't Arroyo was caught pants down/ taped in conversation conniving with the Election Commissioner to rig the votes in her favour?

i've heard the tapes and read the transcripts... nowhere does it even mention that she wanted the commish to rig the votes. but having said that, who knows if she did or did not. not everything on the tape was clear anyway.
also, she wasn't the only one anyway who did that. there were other officials who talked to the same comish and asked his help in "protecting" the votes. whatever that means . . .

ano another note, it's easy to say to impeach her but at the end of the day. what then? who will take over? what will happen? no one has a definite concrete solution.
