Default bring wine into hkg - 9th December 2005

I wanted to take my wine as a part of my remoovals/personal effects with me. Got today faced by the fact that I can not unl paing 100% taxes. I have been "collecting" wine for the last years, have therefore quite some bottles..... The idea of beeing in HKG without my beloved wine is quite hurting Does anyone have an idea how I can take my "wine cellar" with me without getting broke by paing duties?

I am not sure how the immi would assess the value of your wine cellar. Can you just disquise your bottles as some cheap land wine to bring down the tax?

Storage mate... my air freight got thoroughly searched on the way into HK... my sea freight was not rummaged through as severely... if you lie, there's a good chance that you'll get caught. My advice would be to put it in storage for the duration of your stay in HK.

PS: I doubt you'll be collecting any wine while you're here, it's as dear as poison here.

I brought my wine cellar to HK with all my personal furniture and other belongings. 20 feet container, seafreight. Forgot to mention it on the inventory list and took the risk. Customs didn't check the container, so I was lucky. But if they would have found it, I would have negociated with them as your personal stuff comes in tax-free anyway.
It's still a grey area.
And I do not suggest anything. Up to you to consider your own options.
Bonne chance!

PNS is having a 20% discount on 6 bottles of wine or more - on top of any published discounts. This is not publicised, you buy 6 and each time it could be 0-30% off. Total could be 50% which is quite attractive here.
